Faded Elegance, an exhibition of Michael Eastman’s interiors, is on view now at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, NY. Since the late 1990s, Eastman has traveled to Havana five times, capturing the vibrant spirit of the city in what have become some of his best-known images. His photographs communicate human presence and hope even amid physical emptiness or societal change, and they stand as historical documents contributing to Havana’s preservation.

Opening Thursday: Abelardo Morell: Out of Paper, in dialogue with Gene Davis, Kenneth Noland, Jules Olitski & Larry Poons.

Morell’s newest photographs push beyond representation to explore color, form, and abstraction, shown alongside four paintings by these Color Field artists. The exhibition is Morell’s sixth exhibition with the gallery, and the first time we’ve presented painting alongside photography.

Photographers have never been afraid of heights.

Modernist photographers immediately recognized the skyscraper as a defining symbol of the new century and humanity’s reach upwards. As the Eiffel Tower, the Chrysler, and the Empire State set world records, artists climbed as high as the buildings themselves to show what progress looked like from above.
