Thank you Stephanie Cassidy from the Art Students league of New York for publishing my tips on becoming an artist. This is just one persons opinion and I know there are some well known versions out there. We all have our point of view and mine is written from a representational artist’s perspective. Many thanks to Kristy Gordon for input and Jerry Saltz’ insights.

The making of a painting is often a long process of moments of activity followed by long periods of watching paint dry 😐 If you want to learn how to paint, I am currently teaching Sharon Sprung’s class at the Art Students league thru December and I would welcome you joining the class either full or part time. Contact ASL for registration (212) 247-4510.

The frenetic dash to get it all in the taxi to take to gallery on Saturday. Thanks to @gabrielahandal for assistance.
Removing tape after varnishing. #oilonpanelpainting. I use Solivar varnish which is super shiny, so I added some Solivar Matt Varnish to it: it’s still ice rink shiny tho . I experimented on another surface adding turpentine to Solivar (1part Solivar , 1 part distilled turpentine) result - patchy at best. Ideally I would like a satin finish which is removable in the future. Gamsol is another possible option but not sure Solivar and Gamsol are comparable. The combination of the two does produce ideal varnish effect though, ie satin finish. Any ideas?
Wrapping painting to take to photographer. This is my least favorite job, so decided to play with iMovie and record the making of the envelope out of plastic, bubble wrap and glassine paper. . . . #packing #wrappingart #wrappingartist #plasticwrap #contemporarypainting #paintingonpanel
