What’s On: Collecting Without a Center – Afghan Visual Arts & History (AVAH)
How can the vast and dispersed Afghan artistic diaspora be connected into a meaningful canon without a single geographic, national, or institutional center?
Join us for an evening of dialogue, film, and community with AVAH – Afghan Visual Arts & History members Parwana Haydar, Barry Sadid, and Moshtari Hilal, a collective of artists and cultural practitioners dedicated to cataloging and understanding Afghan visual culture and history. Moderated by Leeza Ahmady, director and curator of Asia Contemporary Art Forum and Week, they will explore the nuances of art-making, curation, and collecting—“not as a means of preserving a singular nation-state narrative, but as a way to embrace the pluralities of our stories.”
Sunday, March 9th, 2025 | 4:00 – 8:00 PM
Join us for a promising evening with conversation, films, food—and even a curious ghost!
Harlem, New York City. Space is limited, please DM us for RSVP and address.
