A CHOICE Ancient Egyptian New Kingdom Limestone Fragment of a Offering Stela; ca. 1550–1070 BCE.

An exemplary carved limestone stela fragment depicting a kneeling male adorant/worshipper in a pose of devotion. Fine traces of the original red and black ochre pigment remain visible on the figure, preserving part of the monument's original painted decoration. The upper portion retains part of a wing, likely from the winged solar disk that traditionally crowned New Kingdom stelae as a symbol of divine protection.

The hieroglyphic inscription beside the figure reads:

"Amun-Re, Lord of the Thrones of the Two Lands," invoking Egypt's chief state deity during the New Kingdom. The remaining lower inscription begins with "Words spoken by the Prophet...", indicating the stela originally commemorated a priest or temple official connected to the cult of Amun.

Another BEAUTY! A High Quality Jalisco Female Hunchback Figure. Hailing from the State of Jalisco in Western Mexico, this choice example is depicted sitting on her knees, leaning forward, and back rounded. Her face is very well sculpted for the style, and has a wide eyed expression, possibly focused intently on something, or in a hallucinogenic induced state. She wears a black painted hat, large decorative ornaments in her ears, and a cream coloured skirt with black painted designs. There are strong mineral deposits on the surface which attest to its great age and authenticity. Excellent size, measuring 9 1/2 inches high and almost 7 inches wide, with substantial weight, typical of Shaft Tomb figures. Most of the high quality, larger figures from the Shaft Tomb culture are heavily repaired, however this example is in excellent condition, solid and intact, with the exception of a tiny probe hole in the chest that was professionally restored. Dates in the range of 100BC-250AD

Provenance: Ex. Brad Cowan/The Cowan Collection; Ex. Haskell Gallery, Santa Barbara; Ex. Charles Ludington - a very early collector from the early to mid 1900's, then passed down to his son, Wright Saltus Ludington, who lived from 1900-1992 and was one of the founders of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. NFS! ENJOY!!!

A Highly Detailed and Very Rare Nayarit Figure from the Ixtlan del Rio Settlement, West Mexico. Pre-Classic to Classic Period (Ca. 30BC-300AD). The statue depicts a seated male figure playing the flute with large nose piercings. Strong original colors of white, black, yellow and red. Nice anciet patina and manganese deposits. Was in previous owners collection for nearly a decade. A beautifully made sculpture, whose style was definitely executed by a true master. Highly expressive details and unusual hairstyle for this culture highlight this BEYOND CHOICE EXAMPLE.

Size: 6.5"H 4.1"W

☆☆☆With the exception of a few chips and surfaceware commensurate with age, a WHOLLY INTACT PIECE with NO REPAIRS or RESTORATION!☆☆☆
