Easy AD Cold Crush Brothers

Easy AD Cold Crush Brothers Hip Hop Pioneer Founding Member of the legendary Cold Crush Brothers Hip Hop Super Group

A product of the “boogie-down –Bronx,” Easy AD was born in Fordham Hospital. He attended South Bronx Public School 50. AD had a dream of attending DeWitt Clinton High School because of its rich basketball history, however, he chose South Bronx High School instead for its small class size and diverse curriculum. AD did a two year stint at Lehman College majoring in Business Administration. . At South Bronx High, AD was the point guard on an explosive varsity basketball team. The South Bronx High School Basketball team was the first team to make it to the PSAL playoffs during its first year in league competition. In a year filled with pride and achievement, AD was voted Captain of the basketball team. The Boys Club helped AD develop a keen sense of competitiveness, formidable leadership skills, and an indefatigable work ethic. AD engaged in a blurring array of activities including basketball, swimming, bumper pool, ping-pong, checkers, and chess. Soon, he began writing rhymes. One of the staff, AD and a friend, Donald, decided to form a group called the As Salaam Brothers. The group was comprised of 2 DJs, and 2 MCs (1 male, 1 female DJ and 2 male MCs). The group began playing local block parties in the Lambert Houses, the Dixie Club, the Boys and Girls Club, and local house parties. The group disbanded in the summer of 1977. Soon thereafter, AD tried out for another group along with Donald D, his MC partner. At the tryout, Donald D made the cut; AD didn’t. During the next year, AD wrote rhymes and attended shows to watch others perform. Then, he met DJ Tony Tone, who was putting together a group called the “Cold Crush Brothers.” AD told Tony that he was an “MC.” Without question, Tony responded, “you’re down.” And from that point on, they were down together. The inception of the Cold Crush Brothers started with force – the group began making history. The original line-up of the CCB was, DJ Tony Tone, MC Easy AD, MC Whipper Whip, DJ Charlie Chase, MC Dotarock, and MC Mr. T-Bone. The group remained together for about 6 months. Soon thereafter, Whipper Whip and Dotarock chose to move on to a more established group: Grand Wizard Theodore, and the Fantastic Five MCs. The new CCB included MC Easy AD, DJ Tony Tone, DJ Charlie Chase, JDL, Caz, and Kay-Gee. This is the group configuration that became the “history makers” – the “ground breakers.” The Legendary ColdC rush Brothers! The Cold Crush Brothers are one of the most influential Hip Hop groups of all times. CCB members are known for their stage stomping performances and funky melodies. The group has set the standards for all Hip Hop to come. Some of today’s most established artists cite the CCB as their early inspiration. The Cold Crush Brothers appeared in the first Hip Hop movie, Wild Style. Wild Style, which was released in the early 80s, featured grafitti, breakdancing and the art of MC’ing and DJ’ing on film. The Cold Crush Brothers appeared on singles with Blastmaster KRS-One, Chuck D of the world acclaimed Public Enemy, and Doug E Fresh, “The World’s Greatest Entertainer.” The Cold Crush Brothers are known for their epic battles with Fantastic Five Mcees in the world famous Harlem World Entertainment Complex in the 80s. The Cold Crush Brothers was the first Hip Hop group to rock stages abroad, taking its high-energy stage show to Japan in the middle 80s. A.D. also toured with Africa Bambata, and the Soulsonic Force during 1987 and 1988. The Cold Crush Brothers’ strong rhymes and melodies, along with the influence the group has had on Hip Hop culture, is sufficient reason for it to be deemed the “Rolling Stones” of Hip Hop culture. The Cold Crush Brothers has performed at diverse venues including Madison Square Garden, Roseland, Harlem World Entertainment Complex, the Savoy Manor and the Brooklyn Museum. The group has had co-performances with such notables as Doug E Fresh, Chuck D (Public Enemy), LL Cool J, Run DMC, KRS-One, Luke, DJ Kid Capri, DJ Red Alert, Grand Master Flash & The Furious Five, The Sugar Hill Gang, Big Daddy Kane, Jay-Z, The Roots, Fat Joe, and O.D.B. – Wu Tang Clan. CCB’s movie and television appearances include Wild Style – the first Hip Hop movie, Live @ Five, MTV, Metro Live and Russell Simmons’ One World Music Beat. The group has also been covered in numerous magazines including Source and Vibe XXL. In 1999, AD partnered with KRS-One, a close friend, on a hot, new initiative called “The Temple of Hip Hop.” KRS-One’s special project consisted of a college lecture tour designed to stimulate discourse on the history of Hip Hop culture. In 2008, after 12 years of running programs for teens at the Harlem YMCA’s Jackie Robinson Youth Center, AD finally moved on to his next youth project. For AD, the work was never about the money – it has always been about giving back to the community. AD’s programs offered local youth activities in sports and recreation, leadership development and academic enhancement. It’s impossible for A.D. to walk down a stretch of Harlem without receiving a “shoutout” from one of his students. In the world of local youth programs, he’s the “guru” of young people. Easy A.D. keeps it real simple – it’s all about mutual respect. He connects with kids on their level – through their music and culture. Easy A.D.’s latest youth initiative is serving as the Coordinating Manager of the Hip Hop Stroke Intervention Program at Harlem Hospital and Hip Hop H.E.A.L.S. A.D. works with a clinical team to recruit other Hip Hop pioneers to conduct workshops at schools for 3rd through 6th grade students on stroke prevention techniques. The stroke program was moved to Columbia University Medical Center, where A.D. took on the job of research coordinator in the Stoke Division, Neurological Institute at Columbia. Easy A.D. also severs as The Director of Health Education for the non-profit Hip Hop Public Health .org A.D. is undoubtedly a true renaissance man: a musician, an entrepreneur, a health professional, a community activist and a guardian of our future. He is also a quiet master of youth-to-adult communication who is committed to providing young people with a safe haven for social maturation and personal development. Recently, Easy A.D. has embarked upon the development of an exciting initiative whose properties include Cold Crush Brothers.com, Hip-Hop Head, Inc., Hip-Hop Collectibles, Hip-Hop Historians.com and Hip-Hop Museum.com. These exciting projects are the result of A.D.’s 25 years of accumulated experience, broad-based professional relationships, finely honed business acumen, and treasured Hip Hop artifacts preserved in their original form. AD’s new business venture focuses on the basic elements of Hip Hop: entrepreneurship, DJ’ing, MC’ing, Breakdancing, Grafitti and Hip Hop Fashion. The venture also includes the packaging of audio and visual content and the development of a digital television show. Keep on the lookout for “Hip-Hop Head, Inc. - it’s coming! Easy A.D. Harris plans to spread the history of Hip-Hop culture throughout the world. He intends to do this by utilizing the knowledge and power of the many artists that he’s developed relationships with over the years. A.D.’s “Save the Youth Program” will serve as a vehicle to connect with youth on their level in order to provide them with real options for the future! Their success is our success…
