It's Time to Hear Her Story! "Self Made," the four-part Netflix series "inspired by Madam CJ Walker's story will premiere on March 20. TUNE-IN.
I was introduced to this inspirational story in 2018 while I worked on an exhibition at Lyndhurst Mansion that linked railroad magnate Jay Gould's daughter, Helen Gould Shepard, and Madam Walker. They were neighbors in the wealthy enclave of Irvington, NY. Madam Walker’s #villalewaro was walking distance from Gould’s #Lyndhurstmansion. They were born one year a part and both became philanthropists, but their paths to wealth were quite different.
Sarah Breedlove aka Madam Walker was born in 1867 on a plantation in Louisiana to parents who had been slaves. She became a successful business woman selling hair products for black women eventually becoming the first self-made female millionaire. Tune In! Netflix March 20!
It was a joy working with Madam Walker's great-great-granddaughter, A'Lelia Bundles #aleliabundles on this exhibition. I am so happy for her and her family that this powerful story will reach the masses via #netflix.
