An Exhibition at Hudson Valley's Lyndhurst Mansion Shows Louis Comfort Tiffany in a Different Light | Architectural Digest

Check this out! Another one of my exhibition design projects made it to a publication and it's Architectural Digest no less. YES! RCSFA exhibit design and installation work has made the cover of the NYTimes Arts section 3 times in the last 3 years and now the "Money Shot" I planned for Lyndhurst Mansion's Tiffany exhibit makes the title image for an Architectural Digest exhibit review. Woah. Sometimes, I wonder if I am doing anything right. This helps! Exhibit designers and specialist art installers rarely get mentioned or given public credit for their impactful work on exhibitions so I gotta shout about this good news. This Tiffany exhibit is over but I've got some exciting projects in the works that I hope to be this fantastic.

Tiffany Show Reveals Helen Gould’s Role as Arts Patron

The exhibition that I recently completed design work on is featured in The New York Times!!! I'm so proud of my client, Lyndhurst Mansion. The exhibit features so many breathtaking objects. "Becoming Tiffany: From Hudson Valley Painter to Gilded Age Tastemaker" is on view through the end of September.
Keep in Mind: Lyndhurst Castle for a fun and easy summer excursion for the whole family and if your looking for a meal to tack on to your visit to the Castle consider checking out Blue Hill at Stone Barns, the restaurant and Farm Lab that is just a 20 minute drive from the Castle.
Art & Food not to be missed. xx. RCS

Isabelle de Borchgrave: Fashioning Art from Paper – The Society of the Four Arts

I'm very curious about this exhibit.

Five hundred years of fashion are explored in the breathtaking art of Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave. Painting and manipulating mere paper, she creates historic fashions that are trompe l’oeil masterpieces. Each sculpture is inspired by depictions found in early European paintings or fashion collections from around the world.

@ The Society of the Four Arts, 2 Four Arts Plaza, Palm Beach, FL 33480 thru April 15, 2018.

The Best Art of 2017

The exhibition that I've been working on at the American Folk Art Museum as the textile specialist landed on the NYTimes, Best Art of 2017 List. "Best First Impression" !!! Yes!!!
I can't tell you how much acknowledgements like this - no matter how indirect -mean to a small business owner like myself. It brings on a great feeling of satisfaction. It helps me to know that all the thought and careful work that I do made an impression, an impact even when my job on many museum projects is to remain anonymous, behind the scenes and subservient to the object.
Thanks R. Smith (nytimes) for continuing to recognize the passion inherent in textiles and textile exhibitions and AFAM for being a great client.
BIG SHOUT OUT to the other magic makers that worked so hard to put exhibitions on This List including the talented Tae Smith for MOMA's highly successful Items: Is Fashion Modern? and costume conservator Sarah Scaturro for the MET's Kawakubo, Art of the In-Between. I went through the same Museum Studies grad program as both of these women and their artistry, professionalism and dedication are an inspiration. Remarkable that our exhibits are on This List! together.

NYC-ARTS featured War&Pieced on their recent show.
We loved working on the installation for this exhibit and these rare works of art are worth seeing in person because of their mind-boggling patterns, enormous size, tremendous weight and remarkably good condition but this curator-led segment is a terrific intro if you can't make to NYC.

Final weeks to see Defying Labels: New Roles, New Clothes at Lyndhurst Mansion. (exhibit closes 9/25)

Our re-design of this gem of a fashion exhibit with it's new objects continues the story of the revolutionary changes in women’s roles from the 1880s to 1940 as reflected in the clothes of Helen Gould, Edith Kingdon Gould and Anna Gould, Duchess of Talleyrand, each a relative of railroad baron Jay Gould.

FYI: Exhibit admission is included with mansion tours. Guests may purchase an exhibit-only ticket for $10 below. The exhibition is general admission. Exhibit entry hours are 10:45 am – 4:00 pm, Thursday through Monday. Last entry at 4:00 pm.

CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of our first 1251 Avenue of the Americas Give Away Contest & a Million thanks to all who participated!

We organized an exhibit of famous artworks inspired by LOVE and we planned to give the LOVE away at the end of the show. We selected six reproductions of iconic artworks including Robert Indiana's bold "Love Sculpture" and Gustav Klimt's sensuous painting, "The Kiss" and shared special details about them.

Six lucky employees of 1251 AoA tenants were selected at random from a drawing and they will be awarded their LOVE pictures on 4/6/17.

Follow us on Instagram @RCSFA for pictures from the Give Away Event.

NYC increases Percent for Art program funding for the first time in 35 years

Great News for Public Art in NYC.

In its original form, the Percent for Art program set aside one percent of the first $20 million intended for public projects for public works of art, approximately $1.5 million annually. The new legislation sets aside one percent of the first $50 million instead, increasing the annual budget to $4 million in order to account for inflation.

Since its inception in 1982, New York City's Percent for Art program hasn't seen a funding increase, though that changed last Wednesday.

Exhibition casework is one of the more difficult aspects of exhibition production. It takes careful planning and can be expensive. RCSFA has produced custom cases for clients, retro-fitted existing cases for exhibitions and most recently we tried out the Frank Showcase System from Gaylord Archival for the Lyndhurst Mansion exhibit. What a thrill! The cases are attractive, simple enough to assembly and disassembly, airtight without seals, store flat and are cost effective. Here's a link to our client's testimonial and a good shot of the installation too. https://p.widencdn.net/y2okiz/GA-Lyndhurst-Testimonial
