The Dr. John Quincy Howe House is a notable house located in Phelps, New York. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the house is thought to be the only house in the state of New York with a two-story privy and the only house in the United States with a two-story brick privy.The house is owned by the Phelps Community Historical Society and is operated as a museum.HistoryIt was built in 1869 by Moses Barlow on the site of a former tavern, and is a 2 1/2-story, Second Empire style brick dwelling with a slate mansard roof.
