Psyched for this show in Eastern MA with the always inspired and inspiring Tony Trischka plus an incredible band - Brittany Haas, Maddie Witler, and Jared Engel.

Tony recently came into possession of extremely rare recordings of jam sessions with Scruggs and John Hartford, and he’ll be debuting Scruggs’s note-for-note solos on a few of these.

JAN CHRISTENSEN

Jan Christensen is a singer and songwriter whose songs reflect his connections to the Port of New York, the Hudson River Valley, and the ocean. Jan’s love of history is reflected in his original compositions and the traditional songs and tunes by friends and fellow songwriters he weaves through his performances. His best-known songs are “The Ghosts of Ellis Island,” celebrating the millions of immigrants from all over who made our country the special place it is; and “Rumrunner (The Saga of Bill McCoy),” about one of the early heroes of Prohibition.

Jan is a long-time member of The Hudson River Sloop Singers, a group founded by Pete Seeger from musicians he’d sailed and sung with up and down the Hudson River in support of the Hudson River Sloop “Clearwater,” and has performed at festivals and events, including the Hudson River Revival. He also sings with The New York Packet, the “official” maritime music group of South Street Seaport Museum, and Harbortown, featuring friend Bob Wright’s songs of New Yo

About the band:

Hell's Kitchen Country is a band that features some of the best three-part bluegrass harmony heard in these parts. Comprised of three exceptionally musically gifted bluegrass and old time country veterans, Gene Yellin (guitar), Bill Christophersen (fiddle), and Mark Farrell (mandolin), the band derives its repertoire from the lesser known material of bluegrass pioneers such as the Sauceman Brothers, as well as the Stanley Brothers and Jimmy Martin. This is a musical event you will not want to miss!

About Pat
Pat Wictor is a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter known for his lean and poetic songs and expressive guitar playing. Grounded in rural blues and gospel traditions, Wictor’s performances incorporate elements of jazz, pop, spoken word, and improvisational surprise. He first gained attention for his outstanding lap slide guitar playing, which made him a sought-after collaborator and session musician. For seven years he toured nationally as one third of Brother Sun, the powerful harmonizing trio with Joe Jencks and Greg Greenway. Wictor’s newest recording is a duo album titled Counterpoise, a collaboration with jazz vocalist Deborah Latz. The two first sang together at a vocal improvisation workshop led by Bobby McFerrin. His latest solo release, This is Absolutely Real: Visions and Versions of Phil Ochs, reached #2 on the Folk-DJ charts and was nominated for Best Tribute Album by the Independent Music Awards. His national tour schedule includes solo concerts and teaching workshops on a variety of topics, including guitar, songwriting, vocal improvisation, and body percussion.

About the band:

Andy Statman is universally recognized as one of the world’s foremost mandolin virtuoso’s. He began initially as a bluegrass performer and played in the iconic group, Breakfast Special, in his early years. A short time later his musical journey took him to the world of Klezmer music and he developed similar virtuosic facility on the clarinet. He has toured extensively all over the world in the past 35 years with his trio, playing Klezmer and Bluegrass music. He has recorded over a dozen albums. (His website is www.andystatman.org)
In Andy’s Ramble, Andy is teaming up with his friends since childhood:
Gene Yellin, guitar, a 40 year veteran of the New York bluegrass scene. Gene has played with Hazel Dickens, Breakfast Special (Kenny Kosek, Andy Statman, etc), Yellin Grass (with his bluegrass banjo playing brother, Bob), Eastbound Freight and American Flyer (with Ben Freed). He has recorded with Hazel Dickens and Gene Lowinger. He is critically recognized as one of the best bluegrass singers to come out of the New York area.
Marc Horowitz, banjo, is a nationally recognized banjo virtuoso in both Scruggs and Clawhammer styles. He won his first banjo contest at the Philadelphia Folk Festival in 1966. He has recorded or toured with Doc Watson, Steve Goodman, Tom Paxton, Hall & Oates, Judy Collins and others. His former banjo students include Bela Fleck. He was the catalyst in forming his first bluegrass band (in 1965) which included Andy and Gene.
They are joined by:
Tim Kiah bass and vocals. Tim is from Newton, Mass. In the past 10 years he has established himself in the New York bluegrass, jazz and classical scenes and has amassed a large resume of musical accomplishments

Bev Grant is a labor and social activist, feminist, singer-songwriter, photographer and 2017 Joe Hill Award winner from the Labor Heritage Foundation for her work as a cultural worker as well as the 2017 winner of the ASCAP Foundation’s Jay Gorney award for her song We Were There. Former leader of the cutting edge 70s and 80s folk/rock & world music band, Human Condition, Bev is also founder and director of the Brooklyn Women’s Chorus. Songwriter Steve Mayone wears many hats. Based in Brooklyn, he performs as a solo artist with his bands Bastards of Fine Arts and The Cousins Projet. CAROLANN SOLEBELLO
Carolann Solebellois a performing songwriter born and bred in New York City. Her smooth, compelling voice and warm acoustic guitar style surely nod to rural folk traditions, yet a decidedly urban sense of rhythm and sophisticated vocal phrasing bend those traditional forms into more contemporary shapes. Carolann released her fifth solo album, Shiver, in February 2018. LYNDSEY WILSON
Throughout her music career, Lindsey Wison has embraced issues of the heart mind and spirit within her original music. Love songs, protest tunes and lyrics of empowerment have all been a true representation of her style and sensibilities. Her influences stem from a myriad of musically conscious voices that spanned the 60's, 70's and 80's era such as Odetta, Richie Havens, Joni Mitchell, Joan Armatrading, Carole King and Karen Carpenter. Bob Conroy and Norm Pederson are committed to the preservation of traditional folk songs that illustrate the life, values, and work ethic of the American people. They have been performing traditional music since the folk revival of the 1960’s, and they have appeared at folk festivals and clubs in the UK and Ireland, as well as in the American Roots series at Lincoln Center, Historic Richmond Town, The Noble Maritime Collection, Mystic Seaport Festival, and various other venues in the Northeast. Mr. Conroy, who studied with banjo virtuoso Erik Darling, plays five-string banjo, six-string guitar, and twelve-string guitar. Mr. Pederson plays multiple instruments, including fiddle, mandolin, banjo, and guitar. For this performance, they are joined by Bill Doerge; engaged in many forms of music, he plays string bass, accordion, keyboards, and guitar. Mr. Doerge, who has studied with jazz bassist Jimmy Garrison, is also a member of the group Bob Wright and Harbortown.
Jean Pederson, Norm’s wife, grew up in the folk revival. The Irish side of her family are noted singers and musicians in N.Y.C. and Washington, D.C. She and Norm wrote and performed the music for an off-off Broadway play produced at the famed Café La Mama in the 70’s. Jean has written and performed Christian music for her own church for forty years.
