Does your museum or cultural institution have a stash of N-95 or surgical masks, gloves, or gowns? Are you a facilities, archives, conservation person or another specialty that uses this equipment at work?

http://ppe2nyc.com (started by medical students) is collecting Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) to hospitals and healthcare workers who are in desperate need of these supplies.

Most of us don’t have physical access to our institutions, but contact people at your organization - security staff, directors, anyone who can get in touch with the right person - who can get that vital equipment that is just sitting in closed offices and storage spaces. PPE2NYC has drop off locations as well as pick up, so they can come to the museum if someone is there to hand over the PPE.

Dear friends,

As NYC museums and cultural institutions close and shift to alternative operating models, many of us are left in precarious positions. We are eager to assess the needs of our worker community and to build up a network of support accordingly.

https://tinyurl.com/CulturalWorkersCOVID

PLEASE RESPOND TO AND SHARE OUR SURVEY which intends to figure out community needs, what support would be most helpful, and who has the time/capability to help run this initiative.

January 1965: Thousands of social workers, clerical, supervisors and other staffers at the NYC Welfare Department defied City Hall and went on strike for better pay and working conditions - and humane conditions for welfare recipients. These workers risked their jobs and their commitment galvanized NYC's labor unions and unions across the country. The 28-day strike resulted in a groundbreaking agreement that improved the lives of Welfare workers and their clients.
