The thing I love most about painting is I'm not bound by any rules and can enjoy trying every style, but prefer painting in mixed styles. For instance, I might paint a cow in a semi-realistic/impressionist style, but give her an abstract/expressionist background, or vice versa. Abstraction is about painting the essence of a subject rather than the detail, but still retaining an echo of whatever it
was that prompted the idea. I use thick pure pigment acrylic paint on stretched canvas with painted sides and staples on the back, so framing them is optional. Even though I sell more original paintings, I also offer Giclee prints of those that aren't for sale, but only in a "limited" and numbered amount. I have them done on quality paper, which can be easily mailed in a tube; or if you prefer, a Giclee print can also be transferred to a deep canvas with 'wrap around sides'. Recently, I read somewhere that color should be "experienced", not merely seen, and that's how I feel about color. I use bright, clear, thick paint in a painterly, or expressive style, with very visible brush marks; but with some paintings I use a blended style, where the brush marks are eliminated or hidden creating the illusion of form. Whether you prefer contemporary, abstract, realism, impressionistic, or expressionistic style, I hope you'll find a subject you can enjoy decorating with in your own home. Although I am the most passionate about painting music related works, with guitars, sax, piano keys, & violins, I'm equally passionate about painting pottery and native American Indian girls making pottery. You'll see I have an original take on some of those subjects, adding beads to the pots and children----just for the fun of it. And that's what art should be----FUN !!
