🇺🇸 New Bethlehem History at Gettysburg!

What an incredible hometown connection! ❤️ While visiting Gettysburg, community member, Pastor Dan Hardy, discovered this Civil War-era patriotic apron once owned and worn by Mary Himes Fox of New Bethlehem. 🇺🇸

Mary wore the apron in support of the Union and her husband, Henry B. Fox, who served with the 148th Pennsylvania Infantry and fought at Gettysburg. Its bib features 34 white stars, one for each state in the Union at the time. ⭐ Her story and patriotic apron were also featured in the May 2005 issue of Civil War Historian Magazine. (Genealogy Center⁠)

Today marks 30 years since the devastating “Black Friday” Flood of July 19, 1996, which forever changed communities along Redbank Creek, including Brookville, Summerville, New Bethlehem, Hawthorn, Oak Ridge, Limestone, St. Charles, and beyond. 🙏

🏛️💧 PRESERVING REDBANK VALLEY HISTORY! 📸

We’re preserving & digitizing historic photographs and memorabilia from the Redbank Valley Municipal Authority (RVMA), helping safeguard an important chapter of New Bethlehem’s history. ❤️

Did you know? RVMA was officially established in 1958 to provide water and sewer services to the New Bethlehem area. 💦🏘️ Local water service dates back even further, with records showing community water operations as early as 1882, while the historic Redbank Dam has served the region for generations. 🌊⏳

Preserving our past helps us appreciate the people, projects, and infrastructure that helped build the community we know today. ❤️🤍💙
