No meeting today for the TCHPS. Join us this Saturday, June 13th for Fort Sherman Day at the Lake Bob Sandlin State Park from 10 am to 2 pm. Lots of information about early Titus County and the original fort. There will be a commemoration of the Fort Sherman Cemetery with information about Confederate heroes buried there. Also reinactors from past era and activities for all. Please join us

We are looking forward to our April 14th meeting at 11 am at the Mount Pleasant Library. Our agenda will include make plans for events to be held at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park to celebrate the history of the area.

Every one who is interested, please join us at our next meeting of the TCHPS. We can hardly catch our breath and we have more exciting things to plan for future events. We will also be discussing status for the "old library". The meeting is tomorrow at the library community room at 11:30 am.

Thanks to every one who participated in Fort Sherman Day event on Saturday. It was so much fun for all of us. I think it brought history of Titus County to life.

We are still in conversation with Titus County Commissioners regarding the library. Judge Brian Lee and Commissioner Al Riddle met members of the TCHPS on Wednesday, June 5th to discuss. However, at this point we don't have enough financial support for us to be able to take over the entire operations of the old library in the near future. Without some assurance that the TCHPS will be in a position within a couple of years to be self sufficient, it doesn't look possible at this time.

Titus County Commissioner agreed at the last meeting to establish a committee to explore the possibility of acquiring the old Mount Pleasant Library for use by Titus County Historical Preservation Society and other related groups. The project depends heavily on community support and community donations to make it happen. If you would be interested in helping with this project, let us know. This building needs to stay as a landmark building downtown for use by the public for educational and cultural events. Your help and support are needed.

Next Meeting of the TCHPS is June 11th at 11:30 in the Mount Pleasant Library. Hope to see you there.

Those of you interested in helping with the Fort Sherman Days Celebration, we are having a called meeting to finalize details and make last minute assignments. Meeting will be Tuesday, May 28th, at 11:30 am at the library.
Immediately after that meeting at 12:30, our committee working on possible location for future displays of collections of Titus County History is meeting to discuss a proposal. Please join us for either or both of these special called meetings.

Please mark your calendar for the June 8th event. Fun for the whole family. We are encouraging folks to dress in period clothing. Be sure to bring a lawn chair, sunscreen, and what additional drinks and snacks you might like.
