John Erickson will be here to help us celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Mount Pleasant Public Library. Mark October 12 on your calendar. Bring your kids. You don't want to miss this!! (more info later)

John Erickson doesn’t write parables, but some of his stories about the cowboy life he once lived would work well in church. The Bible refers to us as sheep, sometimes without a shepherd, but we also act like cattle and anger the Owner of the ranch.

I was walking past the library when a little girl emerged from a car carrying a huge stack of books.
Her father was holding open the car door for her.
“Do you want me to carry some books?” he said.
“It’s okay,” the girl said. “I like how they feel in my arms.”
The girl and the father headed into the library together.
The girl was smiling.
The father was whistling.
And me?
My heart was singing.

What's your current read-aloud book?
Recommendations, please.
We're halfway through Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book and we're absolutely hooked!

It's funny, creepy, and beautifully written.
No wonder it won the Carnegie and Newbery medals.
If we don't read the rest of it in one sitting, I'll be most surprised!
Let us know what to read next, please.

Hubble Captures the Galaxy's Biggest Ongoing Stellar Fireworks Show

Imagine slow-motion fireworks that started exploding 170 years ago and are still continuing. This type of firework is not launched into Earth's atmosphere, but rather into space by a doomed super-massive star called Eta Carinae. A new Hubble view, which includes ultraviolet light, shows its hot, exp...
