Good evening Bulldogs!

There appears to be confusion for some this year on whether this is the "Big" Moran Homecoming year or not. The answer is NO, 2016 is NOT the "Big" Homecoming year. 2017 will be the next one. However, on what we call the off-years like 2016, there is always a "Homecoming" football game at the school. Kickoff for this year's Moran Homecoming game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2016 at Bulldog Stadium with the Bulldogs competing against Covington. While we on the Ex-Student Association encourage everyone to attend the game if they can and support the boys, please know that there are no scheduled Ex-Student activities this year. Wait until next year! Go Bulldogs!

Sincerely,
Moran Ex-Student and Teacher Association

2015 MORAN HOMECOMING SEPTEMBER 25-26!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 2015 Moran Homecoming will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 25-26, according to an announcement by the Moran Ex-Student & Teacher Association. The Moran Bulldogs are scheduled to host the Rule Bobcats for the homecoming football game on Friday night, with the remaining homecoming activities scheduled on Saturday as usual. More specific details will be forthcoming in the near future.

The Association members also need your help updating their mailing list, which contains addresses for ex-students and faculty/staff members, current and ex Moran residents and their children and grandchildren. It has been updated according to information currently known. There are likely several addresses that have changed since the 2013 Homecoming (some individuals may have since passed away) that the Association is unaware of. If your address has changed or if you know of someone who is not on the mailing list and who would like to be, e-mail the information to [email protected], send a message on Moran Messenger page, or call 325-945-3145 (if no answer, please leave a message). The Association welcomes your suggestions to make this year’s homecoming a memorable and successful one for our exes and guests.

Repeat message from Remember in Moran...group: We are moving into unchartered territory this year. The homecoming assembly/program Saturday afternoon (2 p.m) this year has had to suddenly change venues. The school has been renovating the gymnasium and totally refinished the old wood floors this summer. So, due to concerns about damaging the newly refinished floor with hard shoes and chairs, our assembly/program will have to be held in the high school auditorium. We know the high school auditorium is not huge like the old one was, but we are trying to maximize the space. If some of you remember Sunny Howard's Moran documentary premiere last year and how packed the auditorium was, we did not anticipate that many would come. This time, we will have more space behind the auditorium that we did not have at the documentary premiere. I know some people will be disappointed to hear all this, but it was our only other solution. Positives are that we will have a good PA system in there, there will be air conditioning, and with the new high school wing and Hall of Fame entrance, everyone can enter the high school in a different way that will be less congested. We will just have to make it work this year. The gym will be opened this year for those who want to go inside. The school is now possibly considering getting a protective gym floor covering for the future.

Repeat message from Remember in Moran...group: Hey everyone, we are near the finish line...Moran Homecoming is this weekend! Been eyeing the weather forecast the past few days....it will certainly be cooler this year....highs around 70 on Saturday lows Saturday night about 50...there is a small chance of rain...but looks like it will happen earlier Saturday or late on Friday night if any---therefore the dance should not be affected. We have never had rain on homecoming as long as I have been involved in it...so bring some layering if necessary...and don't forget to bring some folding chairs for the dance on Saturday night. Hope to see all of you there!

I posted this same message on the Remember in Moran...group. The Moran Cemetery Association is scheduled receive an historical marker from the Texas Historical Commission next week that will be erected permanently at the cemetery that tells some historical facts about it. It was established in 1896 and most of you probably have family members buried there. This is tentative as we are still waiting on shipment of the marker, but a short dedication ceremony for the marker is planned for around 4 p.m. Saturday, October 5 during homecoming festivities after the homecoming program. Everyone is invited. More updates will come in the next week...

The premiere of the documentary last night of "The Lost History of a Little Town: A Moran Story" (produced by Sunny Howard) was a whopping success. The Moran High School auditorium was filled to overflowing. There were people from near and far and wide. Just an amazing turnout that none of us expected. Thank you all so much for your support. The dvd's on hand ran out quickly last night, so orders are currently being taken. The dvd's cost $10. If you would like to place an order, please contact Sunny Howard at [email protected] or call her at 512-940-7354. All proceeds from the dvd sales benefit The Moran Historical Museum in memory of Sunny's mother, Nancy Fuller Branham.

We don't believe it is fading yet, 2011 was just a year with a lower turnout for a variety of reasons. 2009 was very well attended. Hopefully, Homecoming 2013 will be a repeat of 2009 or even better.

MORAN — It was a high school homecoming that could have been something really special to a group of guys whose single accomplishment will forever stand alone in the annals of a school whose storied football history lies buried in its past. Now the Bulldogs still play a similar game but to those of us...

If you have old photos of Moran and/or Moran people, please scan them and share them with us here on the Messenger page. The Moran Historical Museum has a large collection of photos, but I'm sure there are many more out there that individual families have in their possession that most people have not seen. We would love to see what you have. In return, the Messenger will begin posting old Moran photos each day right here.
