Numerous distinct salmon-pink rhombs of Rhodochrosite to 11 mm lie on a sulfide-rich matrix covered with sparkly white tiny Quartz points. Some Rhodochrosite rhombs are covered with drusy Quartz. This attractive old specimen dates to about the mid 1960s, when this collection was assembled. No obviou...

Bob Griffis Minerals - Vanadinite and Calcite from Old Yuma Mine, Amole District, Jaynes, Tucson Mts., Pima County, Arizona, USA

A nice cabinet-sized specimen from this long closed classic Arizona locality.

Deep-red barrel-shaped Vanadinte crystals to 7 mm, accented by bladed, off-white Calcite, cover this matrix specimen. The Calcite fluoresces green under both LW and SW UV. Collected by Marty (along with Bill Hawes and Ed Andersen) in January 1985 at the base of the main decline, below the haulage le...

A cluster of sharp, lustrous, translucent pale-grey cubes of Fluorite, the largest of which is 15 x 14 x 13 mm, which are partly coated with an opaque tan material, and accented with yellow-tan plates of what is likely Barite. The Fluorite is bright purple under UV. This is a choice thumbnail from a...

Bob Griffis Minerals - Grossular garnet from Cerro de Moka, Sierra de Cruces, Mun. de Sierra Mojada, Coahuila, Mexico

These rare red garnets were collected in the early 1990s by myself and Graham Sutton from one single outcrop in the southern part of the garnet skarn known as the "Lake Jaco" locality. The garnets are completely embedded in the hardest white matrix, and are exposed through very careful mechanical means (air scribing). There were probably less than 100 pieces produced. This is a good one.

http://www.bobgriffis.com/specimenSC006.html

A single, sharp, dramatic, well-formed, lustrous, somewhat gemmy crystal of ruby-red Grossular garnet to 13 mm across is perched on a well-trimmed strikingly contrasting white matrix. The matrix is a mixture of fine grained clear to whitish garnets and what is likely Wollastonite. Like all these spe...

Bob Griffis Minerals - Mineral Updates - 2018-07-21 - Swoboda Thumbnails 4

We just added 35 thumbnail specimens, many from obscure localities, and all from Ed Swoboda's collecting and dealing adventures. We obtained these specimens directly from Ed in the early 1990s. All are with his original mounting and labeling. There are some real rarities here, such as gemmy Anatase....

Bob Griffis Minerals - Hemimorphite from Ojuela Mine, Mapimi District, Bufa de Mapimi, Municipío de Mapimi, Durango, Mexico

This really nice, cabinet-sized Hemimorphite is looking for a good home. It was collected in the 1960s and left with some of its limonite coating, making it unique in today's heavily cleaned specimen market. At nearly 3 inches across, and with over 1/2 inch crystals, this is a fine old example from this prolific mine. Take a look!

A fine, large-cabinet specimen with radiating sprays of rust-colored Hemimorphite to 1.5 cm in size, attractively arranged on a limonitic gossan matrix. The coloration is due to coating and/or inclusions of limonite. Minor peripheral contacting is present where the specimen was removed, and a few He...

Bob Griffis Minerals - Benitoite with Neptunite from Dallas Gem Mine, New Idria District, Diablo Range, San Benito Co., California, USA

Really nice specimen with a nearly 1 inch Benitoite crystal.

Real nice combo specimen with white Natrolite hosting several cornflower-blue Benitoite crystals to 20 mm, including a few very sharp, gemmy crystals with rich color. The largest crystal seems to consist of two Benitoites which intergrew, and is incompletely formed at the specimen's edge. Several lu...

Bob Griffis Minerals - Mineral Updates - 2016-09-30 - Cady Mt Fluorites

We recently selected a small, high-quality group of green octahedral Fluorites from several flats of material that were collected several years ago from Cady Mountains, San Bernardino Co., California. This is the last of that lot. California is not known for producing Fluorite specimens, and there a...
