Bob Griffis Minerals - Hematite ( pseudo Magnetite ) in Hydrotalcite and Lizardiite from Øvre Dypingdal Quarry, Snarum, Modum, Buskerud Fylke, Norway

One of many unusual specimens from Norway available on our website.
http://www.bobgriffis.com/specimenRG1227.html

As typical from this classic Norway locality, dark-grey Hematite forms a large 60 x 30 mm pseudomorph crystal after Magnetite which has been exposed from a coating of white Hydrotalcite and yellow Lizardite. This is the type locality for Hydrotalcite. This specimen is from the University of Nevada,....

Bob Griffis Minerals - Malachite from L'Etoile du Congo Mine (Star of the Congo Mine), Lubumbashi, Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire)

http://www.bobgriffis.com/specimenDRC-16.html

Intergrown balls of lustrous green Malachite are draped over contrasting purplish-blue crust of Chrysocolla(?). It is super aesthetic, pristine, and displays all around, 360 degrees. In 2002 the Gobin brothers recovered a small lot of these, and I was one of the first to see them in Tucson in 2003,....

Bob Griffis Minerals - Fluorite with Barite after Laumonite from Moffat Tunnel, Cripple Creek District, Teller Co., Colorado, USA

A rarity from Colorado, this is one of the best I have seen, and was expertly prepared and cleaned. A top piece from a pretty much one-time find made by Jack McGee near Cripple Creek.
http://www.bobgriffis.com/specimenCCF2.html

Lustrous, gemmy, lilac-purple Fluorite cubes to 4 mm partly cover a spray of flattend, elongated, tabular, white Barite epimorphs after Laumontite(?). The contrasting colors make for a very aesthetic specimen. The perceived color of these Fluorites varies depending on the color temperature of the li...

Numerous distinct salmon-pink rhombs of Rhodochrosite to 11 mm lie on a sulfide-rich matrix covered with sparkly white tiny Quartz points. Some Rhodochrosite rhombs are covered with drusy Quartz. This attractive old specimen dates to about the mid 1960s, when this collection was assembled. No obviou...

Bob Griffis Minerals - Vanadinite and Calcite from Old Yuma Mine, Amole District, Jaynes, Tucson Mts., Pima County, Arizona, USA

A nice cabinet-sized specimen from this long closed classic Arizona locality.

Deep-red barrel-shaped Vanadinte crystals to 7 mm, accented by bladed, off-white Calcite, cover this matrix specimen. The Calcite fluoresces green under both LW and SW UV. Collected by Marty (along with Bill Hawes and Ed Andersen) in January 1985 at the base of the main decline, below the haulage le...

http://www.bobgriffis.com/specimenCL-23.html

A cluster of sharp, lustrous, translucent pale-grey cubes of Fluorite, the largest of which is 15 x 14 x 13 mm, which are partly coated with an opaque tan material, and accented with yellow-tan plates of what is likely Barite. The Fluorite is bright purple under UV. This is a choice thumbnail from a...

Bob Griffis Minerals - Grossular garnet from Cerro de Moka, Sierra de Cruces, Mun. de Sierra Mojada, Coahuila, Mexico

These rare red garnets were collected in the early 1990s by myself and Graham Sutton from one single outcrop in the southern part of the garnet skarn known as the "Lake Jaco" locality. The garnets are completely embedded in the hardest white matrix, and are exposed through very careful mechanical means (air scribing). There were probably less than 100 pieces produced. This is a good one.

http://www.bobgriffis.com/specimenSC006.html

A single, sharp, dramatic, well-formed, lustrous, somewhat gemmy crystal of ruby-red Grossular garnet to 13 mm across is perched on a well-trimmed strikingly contrasting white matrix. The matrix is a mixture of fine grained clear to whitish garnets and what is likely Wollastonite. Like all these spe...

Bob Griffis Minerals - Mineral Updates - 2018-07-21 - Swoboda Thumbnails 4

We just added 35 thumbnail specimens, many from obscure localities, and all from Ed Swoboda's collecting and dealing adventures. We obtained these specimens directly from Ed in the early 1990s. All are with his original mounting and labeling. There are some real rarities here, such as gemmy Anatase....
