There's a 60% chance of rain tomorrow night so we are rescheduling the parade and festivities to next Friday, December 11th 5:30-7:30.

The Oglethorpe Police Department will have Christmas with a cop in the gym tomorrow night with Santa for the children. They'll have masks and room to spread out, the Grinch movie and the children will be able to write letters to Santa.

Please share this and help us spread the word. We know the children especially need something to look forward to right now.

Please SHARE and BE COUNTED!!

If you are passionate about this community, we also need you to be passionate about registering for the census. When you register for the census, it provides much needed funding for our city and county in ways that our children need it the most.

If you don't get counted, we won't receive the benefits we desperately need from the federal government. We must be counted. Every. Single. One.

We need you to show up and be counted.

Citizens of Macon County,
we desperately need your help.

This is another appeal to seek your help in trying to get our 2020 Census numbers up.

The Census Bureau has recently moved the deadline date up from October 31, 2020, to September 30, 2020.
This means we have less than 50 days left for residents to submit their response.

Current local rates are as follows: Macon County – 39.3%

Ideal – 25.8%
Marshallville – 32.5%
Montezuma – 51.2%
Oglethorpe – 34.7%.

IF WE FAIL TO GET EVERYONE COUNTED, EVERY COUNTY RESIDENT WILL BE ADVERSELY AFFECTED FOR A DECADE OF FEDERAL FUNDING AND OTHER CRITICAL PURPOSES!

Many factors have contributed to our low response rate- census field operation delays, cancellations of public events, lack of access to public computers and hotspots, delays in distributing census packets to rural residents without post office addresses, and lack of media focus due to COVID 19.

We need you to show up and be counted.

Online: https://www.2020census.gov/ and click on the ‘REPOND’ button at the top of the page.

By Phone: 844-330-2020 (ENGLISH) or

We had rescheduled our block party for Friday, April 17th, but with the extended social distancing guidelines that have been set through April, we have to cancel this event.

Vendors & sponsors- we are working on alternative smaller events that will happen when all of this is over to give you opportunities to sell and be featured in our community.

We are all so very sad and frustrated by everything that's happening just like all of you, but we need to be responsible and make the best decisions for each of you in our community.

Stay well and please stay home as much as possible during this time.

Census 2020

While you are spending a lot more time at home, can you help out your county -- and yourself -- and please fill out your census form?!

Our response rate as of 3/24/20 is only at 15.4%.

Over 55 federal programs use census data to fund services that directly impact our community such as school lunches, Medicaid, rural assistance, food banks, SNAP, WIC and housing assistance.

For everyone who is not counted we will lose $2,300 per person per year for the next 10 years. This will have a dramatic impact on the funding for these programs.

Complete your census here - https://my2020census.gov/login It will take less than 10 minutes!

Welcome the newest Chamber Member kTs Fitness Staying fit is an important part of living a full and healthy life. With all the great food Macon County has to offer, it is critical to have a place you can keep in shape. Fortunately there is such a place. It's call kTs Fitness. kTs Fitness is a gym located in Montezuma. It was started by an athletic, health-conscious young woman named Tara Mallard. Mallard's motto is, "Living a healthy life is no excuse." Mallard enjoys staying in shape herself and decided to make a business out of helping others stay fit. She started her business doing aerobics classes in 2011. The next year, Mallard took it even further and opened her gym, kTs Fitness. The gym offers aerobics classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The gym is open 24/7. A wide selection of workout equipment is also available at kTs Fitness. They have free weights and weight machines for working on your upper body strength. Equipment for cardio fitness training is also available. Mallard is working to teach the importance of fitness beyond the gym. She has volunteered at places such as the Montezuma Boys and Girls club and Montezuma Parks and Recreation Department's summer program. She attended the Macon County Health Fair to teach group exercise classes and share healthy tips with individuals looking to maintain a fit lifestyle. A healthy life is a happy life. Mallard is helping Macon County get off the couch and get active. She not only cares about her health, but she is helping others to learn to care about theirs.
