Portrait of Vivian Stanshall, pastel, reference artist’s own photograph, taken onboard The Old Profanity Showboat (now just the Thekla) in 1984. Revisiting the past is an odd thing. This year is the Thekla’s 40th anniversary as a venue, brought to Bristol by yours truly and me mum, Ki Longfellow Stanshall. So it’s only natural that I look back 40 years, only to realize I am almost the last of my generation standing when it comes to my life. My mother is gone, Vivian is gone and so many others. I continue to paint my autobiography.

Two years since I created this memorial portrait of this little darling. It’s always a mystery to me that such love is contained in a short term package. A proper portrait is a way to capture a spark of their unique essence.

“Moon Goddess” a pencil drawing I did back in the nineties. I can’t recall, right now, the exact time period. I sent it away as a gift and recently it surfaced again. Image sent to me by the current owner. I love seeing it again, my long lost child.
