Dear Scouting Family ,

There is no higher priority to us than the safety of our Scouts, Scouting families and volunteers, partners, vendors, and employees. It is with regret that we are postponing the Take Flight Scout-O-Ree on May 15-17, 2020. We are working with Vendors and the Skypark in hopes to reschedule the event this fall.

With the rapidly escalating health concerns relating to the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the decision to postpone the Take Flight Event was not made lightly. To slow the transmission of the virus, many state-run institutions have canceled large gatherings and encourage social distancing. All these factors were considered when we decided to postpone the Take Flight event to help mitigate the growing risk of transmission.

Please remember to follow the precautions and preventive measures as recommended by the Maryland Department of Health:
• Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds
• Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol if soap and water are not available
• Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, your sleeve or your elbow
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using standard cleaning practices
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick
• If you are sick, stay home, except when seeking medical care

Our number one goal is to keep our Scouters safe; we will always err on the side of caution and we will follow recommendations of our local, state, and national governing bodies. If you have any questions regarding this event please call Chesapeake District Executive, Kelli Harney at 443-573-2530.

Yours in Scouting,
Chesapeake District Take Flight Committee

Baltimore Area Council Boy Scouts of America

Announcement from BAC regarding the recent National announcement today. All programs will continue as normal. If you have any questions feel free to contact your local representative.

Today, the national organization of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to achieve two key objectives: equitably compensate victims who were harmed during their time in Scouting and continue to carry out Scouting’s mission for years to come.

Importantly, the Baltimore Area Council has not filed for bankruptcy. Our Council is legally separate, distinct and financially independent from the national organization. Unit meetings and activities, district and council events, other Scouting adventures and countless service projects will take place as usual. In short, there will be no changes to the local Scouting experience.

Our Story

Since 2012 we have partnered with the Glenn L. Martin Museum. We offer various Merit Badge days each spring. We started with a one day program and have since grown to multiple events. Varoius Flight Schools help us offer great Aviation MB Program. Middle River Aircraft Systems opens their facility and allows Scouts to make a Composite Skateboard toward the Merit Badge. We have had many famous guests including Major General Guy Walsh and Senior Astronaut and Eagle Scout Dr. Tom Jones. we look forward to the future as we continue to grow a Family Friendly aviation Day Event.
