The City of Manassas Fire and Rescue Department responds to an auto accident with vehicle in the water, Manassas Virginia, August 29, 2020 15:45. The City of Manassas Fire and Rescue Department responded to an auto accident with a vehicle in the water and person trapped in the area of Hastings Drive and Waterbury Court (box 2123).

Units arrived to find a sport utility vehicle partially submerged in a water retention pond approx 300 feet from land. Bystanders on the scene who had witnessed the crash had entered the water and removed the unconscious patient through the back hatch prior to crews arriving. Truck 501’s crew entered the water and assisted with removing the patient from the water. Medic 501 ground transported the patient to Manassas Airport and transferred care to AirCare 1. Manassas City units on the scene included Truck 501, Rescue Engine 521, Medic 501, Ambulance 521 and Battalion 581. Additional units from Prince William County Department of Fire Rescue were dispatched as well.

**It Takes A Team Tuesday**

It’s going to be another hot one today and it doesn’t look like it is going to let up any time soon!

Being out in this heat for any extended period of time can have serious effects on your health. Be sure to take frequent breaks and to drink plenty of water if you need to be outside.

Take a minute to learn about heat-related illnesses and what to do if you find yourself with any of these symptoms!

Please be safe

We anticipate with the lack of large fireworks displays, more people will be conducting their own fireworks show. Here are a few tips from our Fire Marshal and Chief regarding a safe 4th of July.

Congratulations to Justin Laidler

Congratulations to Justin Laidler

Technician Justin Laidler received a Merit Award for
Valor through the Prince William Chamber of Commerce annual ceremony. Congratulations Justin!

On December 27, 2019 at 15:37 hours the City of Manassas Fire and Rescue units (E501, TW501, M501, RE521, M521 and BC581) were dispatched to Nicol Lane for a reported apartment fire. Engine501 and Tower501 arrived on scene to a 3-story apartment building with an enclosed stairwell to find two people calling for help from a window on the bravo side of the structure. Engine 501 and Tower 501 immediately recognized that the two people in the window were cut off from egress due to smoke conditions inside the apartment. Engine 501 secured their own water and stretched an 1 ¾” line to the apartment and Tower 501 immediately split crews and began rescue efforts. The driver of Tower 501 (Technician Justin Laidler) placed a ground ladder to the window were the trapped victims were, while the Officer and Irons Firefighter forced entry into the apartment.

The occupants of the apartment were able to isolate themselves from smoke conditions in the apartment by closing the interior bedroom door to the room they were located in. The fire was located in the front of the apartment door, which was their only exit from the apartment. Due to Technician Laidler’s quick recognition and actions he was able to bring the two civilians along with two dogs down the ground ladder and out of harm’s way.

The interior Tower crew performed a quick primary of the affected residence to ensure no one else was inside and Engine 501 extinguished the fire.

My dear Manassas Fire Company Friends....I was sitting here today and thought about a few years ago...when my wife call you for a "SILENT RUN" to my home.....as I had a long history of IHDisease....it was early in the morning....it was cold as I remember....I have taken over 4K nitro pills in my last 10 to 12 years to save...trips to the ER....anyway.....after having quintuple bypass in 1994....ARDS in 2003..with double pneumonia......and God's grace save me in a head-on collision in 1973.... bombs in Vietnam (2)...and a blown engine over the Pacific....anyway....I think this was before you guys had the label on the wall...where one could point to the pain levels...there was a young firefighter who grabbed the paddles and was ready to apply them at first notice...of course they ask you about your medications...."WHAT THE HELL"....I can't remember my name at this point..much less my medications....I should have had them tattooed on my arm.....LOL.....the Medic Nurse after all the IV's....said..."What is your pain level?".....heck...I didn't know what to say...so I said..."What is child birth?"......she said..."10".....I said..."OK give me that...I feel the head coming out!"........LOL my dear friends...and thanks for your outstanding support....and ..."I am still here!"
