I absolutely love painting pet portraits — it’s such an honour to be trusted with capturing a truly adored family member 🤍🐾

This recent commission is a 9×12” original watercolor of Crystal the Schnauzer, created with care to reflect not just their likeness, but their personality and spirit. Every pet has a story, and it’s a joy to bring that to life on paper.( The second photo shows the painting in a digital frame for demonstration purposes.)

If you’re interested in commissioning an original watercolor portrait of your own beloved pet, feel free to send me a message — I’d love to chat with you about creating something special.

**I’d love to hear your thoughts, fellow makers 💬**

Recently, I was asked by a craft fair to donate an item valued at **$25 or more**. I happily agreed and donated a **professionally handmade crochet Christmas stocking**—a piece I was genuinely proud of.

*Thank you HanJan Crochet/ for the pattern*

I spent precious time researching the pattern, choosing the right yarn, practising the design, and then carefully making it. All up, about **4 hours of skilled work**, not to mention years of experience behind those stitches.

At the fair, I later saw my donated piece displayed on a table…
with a **$5 price tag**.

I won’t lie—my heart sank.

This has me thinking about how **handmade work is valued**, especially when it comes from small businesses, artists, and professional craft makers.

👉 How would *you* feel if this were your donation?
👉 Have you experienced something similar?
👉 How do you decide when (or if) to donate your work?
👉 How do you handle situations where the value of handmade isn’t understood?

I’m not looking to call anyone out—just to open an honest conversation.
I’d really love to hear your experiences, thoughts, and ideas. 🤍

🧶 I've just finished a custom pair of fingerless gloves!

These beauties were specially adjusted to keep those knuckles warm while still giving plenty of movement and comfort. I used the lovely pattern by Hooked by Robin (Facebook) / (Instagram), and it was such a fun make!

The yarn is from Expression Fiber Arts (Facebook) / (Instagram), in their Buttery Worsted base — 100% Superwash Merino Wool. The colorway Wolfsbane Veil is absolutely mesmerizing… deep eggplant, soft burgundy, violet, lavender, copper tones and more. It’s luxurious, soft, and simply gorgeous to work with. ✨🧵
