EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT!!

The History Group is so proud and excited to extend an invitation to everyone to join us for the unveiling of our Christopher Evans Historic Marker!

When: May 23, 2026, 2:00pm.

Where: Dunkle Hall, New Straitsville, Ohio.

We would especially love for any coal miners (past or present) and/or their families to join us.

We will have a short program and then unveil the new marker.

Below is our membership/fund raising letter and form. As you will read in the letter, the past year has held many significant challenges for the History Group. Issues at the trailer and at the museum (Dunkle Hall) have become huge problems and need funding to handle.

Our yearly donation/membership drive barely give us enough money to pay the insurance bill and keep the lights on and the doors open. We are pursuing grants and other funding but this is difficult.

Even if you are already a member or a lifetime member, please consider donating today. Every little bit helps us save and preserve New Straitsville history.

HEAR YE HEAR YE!!

We have some great news!!

As many know, the History Group has been planning for a historical marker for labor union leader, Christopher Evans. The Evans family has been donating funds in a special account for a very long time.

AND...

We are SO excited to announce that this year we submitted an application for the historical marker.....

WE WERE ACCEPTED!!!!!!!

We received our acceptance notification this week. We've been nervously awaiting the results since the May 5th application due date.

We have notified the Evans family (who will be in town in a couple of weeks for their reunion).

The process from here is to work with the Ohio History Connection to finalize the marker text, then production on our marker will begin.

We are planning a dedication ceremony, likely next summer, so stay tuned for details!

It's that time again! The 54th Moonshine Festival kicks off this week.

The History Group will be having a fund-raiser breakfast in Dunkle Hall Saturday and Sunday, 7am to 9am. Come join us for yummy breakfast and support the History Group!
