Louisville-Nimishillen Historical Society Our mission is to collect, preserve, share and educate the public about the history and heritage of Nimishillen Township & Louisville, Ohio.

The Louisville-Nimishillen Historical Society (LNHS) was founded May 1, 2010 and is the youngest historical society in Stark County. Our mission is to collect, preserve and share the history and heritage of Nimishillen Township and Louisville Ohio, and to educate and inform the area residents those others who have an interest. The Society strives to collect and protect written and published materials, photographs and any other media, be it audio or video, that is of historical or cultural value or significance, past and present. The Society presents monthly educational programs of interest to its membership with an open invitation for everyone to attend these free events.

If you saw last Thursday’s post, you read about the series of articles from 1931 called “Louisville’s Pioneer Business Men”. The second in the series from the October 15, 1931 issue of The Louisville Herald was G. F. Bauman. The Bauman family had a roofing and tinning business, located at the current 132 E Main St, next to Umbrella Alley. You can see his work in our museum at 128 E Main St (the center space of the building known at the Bauman Block) - just look up at the ceiling.

On October 8, 1931, The Louisville Herald started a series of articles called “Louisville’s Pioneer Business Men”. The first in the series was Adam J. Metzger, who joined the hardware business in 1877. Nearly 150 years later, the hardware store is still in business as Metzger’s Ace Hardware.

Did you know that the Louisville Leopards used to be the Louisville Blue Raiders? Here is an article about the Louisville vs Columbiana football game from October 1, 1942, when the Louisville Blue Raiders shut out the Columbiana Clippers 14-0. The mascot changed during the 1948 football season.
