Cirrus is pleased to announce a new series of monographs by Daniel Gibson (b. 1977 Yuma, AZ). For the edition, Gibson has created three distinct compositions which are elaborated through the process of monoprinting and hand embellishment. These colorful works further Gibson’s exploration into his signature subject matter, the borderlands of the US and Mexico.

𝘉𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘭𝘺, 𝘚𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘦, and 𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥, will be shown at IFPDA Print Fair, which opens tomorrow in New York, NY. More editions are available at Cirrus Gallery in Los Angeles.

Featured here is Barbara T. Smith’s 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘳 series printed at Cirrus in 2016. Continuing a practice in performance, Barbara moved her hands through a scanner to create the images.

Did you know Cirrus gave Barbara T. Smith her first show? In 1971, Cirrus exhibited 𝘍𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥 𝘗𝘪𝘦𝘤𝘦. This large scale work consisted of tinted fiberglass blades of grass, triggered when walked through and illuminated by a 20ft long DIY-constructed computer.

Featured above is the mailer from the exhibition. Barbara had to go to Irvine to an early computer lab to have it printed.

This exhibition is just one example of how Cirrus’s gallery programming in the 1970s was engaging early computer art in California.

Jean Milant tours Bending the River, an art intervention project organized by artist Lauren Bon.

is an art and research hub based in Los Angeles. Their mission is to explore and address critical social and environmental issues through interventions and projects aimed at reparation.

Jean recalls that this is not the first intervention into the river. In 2003, artist Noah Peffer attempted to ride a homemade boat through the river as part of his grad school work at CalArts. Noah Peffer showed artifacts from the work at the 2003 exhibition at Cirrus Gallery, “Recess”, curated by our very own

Cirrus founder Jean Milant visits his original location on 708 N Manhattan Pl. in the Melrose Hill district—the hot new spot for galleries. Funny how things come full circle. Stopped at and , as well as Joe Goode’s original studio location at 725 N Western Ave. A slice of LA.
