Roll up sleeves, grab a hat, and let’s get to work in the Milpa! 🌱🌽🫘

The milpa teaches us that all good things in life require proper maintenance. The seeds we planted in the Spring are well on their way and growing exponentially every day.

In this class, we'll learn how to properly maintain all types of plants within our garden. Some topics we will cover include utilizing vertical space, pruning, integrative pest management, water-wise irrigation, fertilization, proper weeding, and the benefits of mulching.

Special guest, Marlene Aguilar of Irekuarhikua.

Together, these two influential voices will discuss the complexities of the immigrant experience, moving beyond the immigrant success story to discuss the deeper realities of motherhood, a writing career, and the internal work of healing from the scars left by migration.

Discover the flavors, traditions, and cultural significance of summer foods in this hands-on cooking class with Chef Claudia Serrato.

Participants will learn grilling techniques, how to work with corn, and how to prepare an ancestral Southwest salad using dried chiles, seasonal produce, and farm-fresh elotes. Corn silk tea will also be served.

More than a cooking class, this experience offers a reflection on how summer foods support labor, ceremony, and celebration, honoring the role of seasonal eating in Indigenous lifeways.

The session concludes with a communal tasting.

Featuring special guest Dr. Chef Claudia Serrato, Indigenous Culinary Anthropologist and Co-Foundress of Across Our Kitchen Tables.
