Virginia Watercolor Society Annual Exhibition The 40th Annual Virginia Watercolor Society exhibition at Workhouse Arts Center, Lorton, VA from May 25th through August 2nd, 2019.
The Virginia Watercolor Society, organized in 1979 by Roanoke artists John Will Creasy and Ernest Johnson, is an organization of artists and non-painters which seeks to foster interest and participation in the exciting world of watercolor through annual juried exhibitions and social activities. Its objectives are to create opportunities for beginning as well as established artists to advance their skills and professionalism, and to be educational for the public at large. VWS is recognized as a publicly supported organization and was granted a tax-exempt status in 1988.

This year's 40th Anniversary Exhibition's juror will be John Salminen NWS, AWS.DF.

John is a signature member of numerous prestigious art societies in the United States, including the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, Allied Artists of America and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. He is a member of the Jiangsu Watercolor Institute and of the Australian Watercolor Society.

John has won more than 245 awards in national and international exhibitions, including the top awards multiple times in AWS, NWS, TWSA and AA. He was honored to receive the Pakistan Achievement Award with gold medal, the Shanghai Zhoujiajiao International Biennial Award and the Thailand Ministry of Culture and the Arts Award. He has been an invited artist in 46 watercolor exhibitions in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Russia, Singapore, Mexico, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Canada, Belgium, England and Australia. His work is included in collections around the world.

John has served as juror/judge of 70 national and international exhibitions. His work has been featured in more than ninety national and international magazine articles and in 42 books on four continents.

The 39th Exhibition of the Virginia Watercolor Society opens this evening at Roanoke College's Olin Hall. The reception runs from 6-8pm.
Tomorrow will be a busy day for members beginning with a breakfast at 9am and running throughout the day with demonstrations, gallery talks and the Awards Banquet!

Yesterday was the VWS/MSV Holiday Card Watercolor Workshop at MSV in Winchester, Virginia. We held two sessions, morning and afternoon, and the holiday wreaths, trees, and skaters were all over the classroom. A good time was had by all!
