Panther Nation,
This week's homecoming game will be our largest crowd of the year. Tickets are already sold out. I want to encourage all fans planning to attend the game, to wear a mask. We are fortunate that we have had very few cases of COVID-19 this school year. Help us this Friday in sustaining that success by wearing a mask. I look forward to seeing everyone at the game! IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM SHISD:

Panther Nation,
Spring Hill ISD is canceling all classes tomorrow, August 27, 2020, including virtual learners due to the pending storms from the hurricane. There is a likelihood that we will lose power from the high winds that are expected. With the new COVID-19 protocols in place, including social distancing, we are not willing to take the chance of no electricity and are erring on the side of precaution. We feel that this is the best decision for the safety of our students, faculty and staff. We will make an announcement tomorrow morning concerning after school athletic events. Classes will resume on Friday, August 28, 2020 at regular time.

Stay safe and hopefully we will be back together soon.

Panther Nation,
SHISD has released a video for the reopening of school for the 2020-2021 school year. Please keep in mind that information is changing daily. There is already an update to the video in reference to UIL participation. A decision has NOT been made about virtual learners and UIL participation as indicated. Please take some time to read the key information points below:

Key Information:

The district will be sending out an email asking for a decision on how students plan to attend the 2020-21 school year
The options are face-to-face learning or remote/online learning. The deadline for an answer is July 24. These answers will help us determine class sizes. SHISD has no authority to close schools, only the governor and local health department can make that decision. SHISD must follow the GA-29 mask executive order. SHISD will be releasing the full Reopening Document July 21st. Information can and will likely change. Face-to-face/Remote online learning is a nine-week commitment, not yearlong. We will allow parents to change instructional settings during the first three weeks of school. At that point your child will remain in that setting through the end of the grading period. Parents will have the opportunity to visit with the campus principal when unforeseen circumstances arise and might require a change of placement.

Face to Face Learning
Our current plan is to follow the approved school calendar, 5-days a week, full-day schedule. The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be important to keep students and employees safe. Social distancing will be enforced where possible. Transportation will run daily. PPE on the bus is very important due to lack of social distancing opportunities. Parent drop-off/pick-up is preferred if possible. Campuses will be cleaned daily, focusing on high-use areas. E360 sprayers will be utilized with approved chemicals. Sharing of materials during class periods will be highly discouraged. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is currently working on protocols for how districts will respond to positive test results from students and staff.

Online Learning
Will have a full curriculum. Students will be engaged daily, TEA attendance rules still apply. Online courses will be taught by SHISD teachers. The district has utilized professional development throughout the summer to enhance teachers’ ability to provide online instruction. The online learning plan is being finalized. More details will be shared in the near future.

The SHJH faculty have been working since Monday to move all of our lessons to an on-line format. All students can access their core content and begin completing lessons in Google Classroom on Monday, March 23. All of our students should be able to access their Google Classrooms from home as this is a program that many of our teachers use regularly. The District is developing a plan for students that do not have access to a computer or the Internet.

STATEMENT ON IN-HOME LEARNING AND FREE MEALS FOR STUDENTS FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Panther Nation,
I would like to give you an update concerning our path forward in Spring Hill ISD. Beginning on March 23 we plan to begin our in-home instruction. We met with our teachers this week and are creating an in-home instructional plan that will help provide structure for our students while at home.

I have always believed that our biggest structural problem in public education is that we allow students to take a three month vacation during the summer. The amount of academic retention loss during these months is incredibly detrimental to our student’s academic progress. With the possibility of our schools being closed for more than two weeks we feel the need to create this in-home learning program.

We are hoping that on March 30 we will be able to return to school and begin normal instructional practices. However, we are planning for a much longer break if we are not allowed to return to school in the near future. We are developing a web page that will host assignments and directions for each grade level. Our plan is to make this page available by Sunday evening.

The plan we are creating will begin with simple activities created by Spring Hill ISD teachers. As we continue with the program and work out technical difficulties we hope to provide a more authentic in home learning experience. I completely understand the hardships that many families are going through at this time and this is not meant to be another burden on families.

On a slightly different note, for our students who are enrolled in dual credit courses, Kilgore College is starting the online versions of their courses on March 23. Because these courses meet graduation credit requirements, we want to make sure students stay on top of the coursework and meet all deadlines set forth by the college.

MEALS: Spring Hill ISD wants to make sure that our students still have food available during this school closure and will begin providing free meals to students 18 years and under who are currently enrolled in the District. Meals will be distributed at the Primary campus beginning March 18 from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm. We ask that you do not come into the building, but that you drive through the circle drive in front of the Primary school where your food will be delivered to your vehicle. Students must be present to receive free meals. We are working on a plan that would allow us to have multiple distribution points throughout the community for future meals.

We are asking ALL parents to complete the Meal Participation Survey, so we can get an accurate count of meals to prepare each day.

This afternoon we will post a video explaining many of the issues we are working through.

As many of our Spring Hill faithful know, one of our former coaches, Coach Kincy, has been diagnosed with brain cancer. This family is so special to the Spring Hill community with Mrs. Charlotte Kincy teaching many of my fellow graduates. This is an extremely tough time for the family, but there's a way for us to help. A GoFundMe has been established to help with medical expenses. If you can, give back to a wonderful, loving family that is going through an immensely tough time. Thank you.
