Treasury is Delivering Millions of Economic Impact Payments by Prepaid Debit Card | U.S. Department of the Treasury

Haven't received your Economic Impact Payment? (Stimulus)

The IRS says Nearly four million people are being sent their Economic Impact Payment by prepaid debit card, instead of paper check. The determination of which taxpayers receive a debit card was made by the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, another part of the Treasury Department that works with the IRS to handle distribution of the payments.

These Economic Impact Payment Cards arrive in a plain envelope from Money Network Cardholder Services. The Visa name will appear on the front of the card; the back of the card has the name of the issuing bank, MetaBank®, N.A. Information included with the card will explain that the card is an Economic Impact Payment Card.

Taxpayers act now to receive Economic Impact Payments by direct deposit.

People must use Get My Payment by noon Wednesday, May 13, for a chance to get their Economic Impact Payment by direct deposit.

After noon Wednesday, the IRS will begin preparing to mail millions of additional payments to those who haven’t received one yet. Taxpayers can expect to receive these payments beginning in late May. People who use Get My Payment before the deadline can still take advantage of the direct deposit option. Get My Payment is available in English and Spanish.

The Get My Payment tool provides eligible taxpayers with an estimated deposit date for their Economic Impact Payment. The information is updated once a day, usually overnight. There is no need to check more often. Taxpayers who didn’t choose direct deposit on their last tax return can use this tool to enter bank account information to receive their payment by direct deposit.

Non-Filers tool is still available.
For people not required to file a federal tax return, the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool, available in English and Spanish, helps them submit basic information to have an Economic Impact Payment sent to their bank account. This tool is a free and easy option for those who don’t receive:

• Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits (SSDI)
• Railroad Retirement benefits
• Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
• VA Compensation and Pension (C&P)

Eligible taxpayers who filed tax returns for 2019 or 2018 will receive the payments automatically. Automatic payments are also being sent to those receiving Social Security retirement, disability benefits, Railroad Retirement benefits, Veterans Affairs benefits or Supplemental Security Income soon.

Other items that will affect their 2019 taxes.

Charitable deduction:
If you are trying to itemize your deductions a great place to fill up in is on charitable giving.
Not only can your contributions help make a meaningful difference and leave an impact, you can also write eligible contributions off on your taxes. The IRS states that you may deduct charitable contributions of money or property made to qualified organizations if you itemize your deductions. Generally, you may deduct up to 60 percent (this was bumped up from 50% after new tax laws went into effect) of your adjusted gross income, but 20 percent and 30 percent limitations apply in some cases.

Some tips for Schedule C filers:
Separate your personal money from your business money, you'll be happy you did when you have to do your bookkeeping.
Set aside money for taxes or we can help you figure out estimate payments to send directly to the IRS.
Don't miss out on deductions. Look up the Schedule C on the IRS web page to see what you can write off.
Keep info on your home office. How much space do you use, do you rent, are there utilities?
Think about retirement. Invest into an IRA - it's a write off too!

Consumer Alerts on Tax Scams

‪Note that the IRS will never:

1) Call to demand immediate payment using a specific payment method such as a prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer. Generally, the IRS will first mail you a bill if you owe any taxes.
2) Threaten to immediately bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
3) Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
4) Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.

Give us a call if you're not sure!
