Day on the hill is this week at the capital! This is a great opportunity to visit the Utah State Capitol and watch the legislative process take place. It’s also a great way to connect with other farm bureau members and increase your awareness of how current legislation could affect local farmers and ranchers. Can’t wait for this opportunity!

It was an exciting week to be a YF&R member! On Thursday, Utah Farm Bureau came to USU to drop off a donation to the Student Nutrition Access Center (SNAC) Pantry as part of the Miracle of Agriculture Foundation. A few of our USU YF&R members tagged along to offer support and see firsthand what Farm Bureau is doing here at USU.

On Monday night USU Extension, Utah YF&R, and Western Ag Credit hosted a Young Farmers and Ranchers dinner to share tips for being financially successful as a beginning farmer or rancher, and information about opportunities offered by the YF&R program such as awards, competitions, and travel opportunities.

Earlier this month, Kyndie Jorgensen traveled to Denver, CO to represent Utah in the National YF&R Collegiate Discussion Meet competition. Kyndie held her own against stiff competition, advancing to the “Sweet 16” semifinal round of the discussion meet. We are so proud of Kyndie for representing Utah and our USU YF&R chapter well. Way to go Kyndie!

We’d like to thank Cortney Law for giving our chapter a tour of her family’s cattle operation in Cornish, UT. We enjoyed learning about the different strategies they use to provide high quality breeding bulls and heifers, as well as direct-to-consumer beef. Cortney also shared how she has been involved with Utah Farm Bureau and how being a member of Utah Young Farmers and Ranchers has impacted her life.
