“Rack ‘em and crack ‘em!” Practiced incorporating perspective into this piece for a more realistic feel, even with the loose brushstrokes. Perspective is used to create the illusion of three-dimensional depth on a flat surface. Also used a lot of finger painting in this piece when the brush marks were just not giving me the effect I was wanting. I can’t wait to hang this one on my wall!

We recently added a rec room to our home. Of course we need a billiards piece of art to showcase the space. Turns out pool balls are hella fun to paint! 🎨

Today in the studio was all about color mixing. Practicing new recipes is an ongoing study. I never use a color straight out of the bottle. Mixology is a must in an artists’ arena!

Because I’m working on a bigger piece (20x20), I am using a stay-wet palette so that my acrylics don’t dry quite as fast.

I look forward to sharing my latest project soon!

My favorite part of this composition is the wallpaper and then the distortion of it in the glass vase. In an attempt to make the flower “pop”, I added the turquoise highlights. I would love your opinions. Too much of a distraction, or does it work with the painting?

Calling this crocus composition done. 💜💟
Intentionally tried to work in both some warm and cool purples (cool purples have more blue hues and warm purples more red). Marrying warms and cools often make a painting more pleasing to the eyes.

Being an artist is, of course, about creating, but it is also about studying, learning, and researching. Artist and author Carol Marine has a terrific book called Daily Painting. She is helping to get my morning started (ignore the bed head as I am thoroughly enjoying my morning cuppa outside on my patio as I soak up Carol’s tips).

When we view art it is most often the outcome that we see. The final version, or at least where the artist decided to stop. My journey here is about sharing both the outcome AND the process. It gets ugly, messy and downright unsettling in the midst of many projects. I have to tell myself “keep going.” Acrylics are about layering and making sure the values (lights and darks) are in the right spots. I’m not sure where this one will end up yet, but these little crocus are starting to peek through.
