Napoleon wanting to end the Mexican rebellion arrives with his Grande Armee on the Gulf Coast. His plan is to re-take Texas and as much lost territory from Santa Anna's failed wars as possible. The valuable resources are much needed to keep France on par with Britain. Plus he presents himself to Mexico as a liberator of their lost lands. Napoleon hopes to eliminate the Southern forces and then in turn, any Northern Army that challenges him. Napoleon has his eyes set on a small outpost & river crossing to establish his supply lines. The Army of Northern Virginia has arrived first via forced march.

Lee is on the defense and counter attacking. Napoleon is hitting hard and fast, especially in the center with a pivot to the left and through a gap in the physical defenses countering the flank attack. But it seems Ney's cavalry is moments away from being shot to pieces by Stonewall's Brigade in his flank attack on the Confederate left. But they are supported by elite French Grenadiers. including Grenadier artillery. The French attack by Ney includes elite Polish Lancers. Stuart's cavalry is Lee's counter attack on the right supported by Cherokee Indian scouts, infantry, and artillery. They inflict great damage to the artillery on the French right. Artillery is accurate for both sides and incessant. Longstreet holds the center. Massena surrounds & bi-passes a Confederate van guard and presses on to Longstreet supported by Old Guard reserves and artillery. French Cavalry attempts a counter attack to Stuart's flanking attack. French Cavalry is further divided with an additional counter stroke to Longstreet's right. Lee sends additional infantry to his left supporting Stuart.

I brush simple white water based school glue on a round toothpick (they are stronger than flat toothpicks). I pull a cotton ball apart first until I am satisfied with the general shape. I slide the toothpick in and then stake them into a sheet of styro-foam giving them some room in between them. I use three spray paints. Flat or satin black, yellow enamel, and orange fluorescent. These three work the best. I've tried variations like fluorescent yellow with awful results. Hardware stores/home improvement centers will carry all three versions as they are pretty standard stock items for other uses. I start with yellow, go to orange and finish with black. Short close bursts work best. For bigger explosions I use multiple cotton balls spiked on a tooth pick or a bamboo skewer. Since I use foam sheet fields I just spike them into an existing hole or create a new hole. If you have a wood base then a hex nut or similar small metal widget will work as they can be inserted and glued in place with ease. The bottom of the explosion can be tapered by wetting your finger tips and giving it a twist like you're finishing rolling a joint😎 They will last about 18 months before they show fading and age.

Sneak peek snapped off a few early birds pics from Lee vs. Napoleon.. Only 80% done. Lighting will be corrected of course. This is just the lighting for setting it up which is where the grainy texture comes from, not enough light.

Between artillery, ,more cavalry, support troops, general staff the total on the board should top out around 6,400 soldiers, 800 horses, 48 cannon, several dozen wagons and hundreds of casualties. Western diorama of the 359 figures & accessories on a detailed base, which is about 5 feet long. Some pictures were taken before I placed the trees, which are not included in the count, I think there are about 50. No figures or accessories are glued in place. I think there are about 30 figures that need to be touch up painted when pics were taken. The figures are 1/72 scale and the groups consist of, Davy Crockett Eastern friendly Indians Conestoga wagon train Pioneers with prairie schooner Cowboys with & chuck wagon Stampede Buffalo Hunt with Indian hunters Buffalo Bill Apache camp Kit Carson with raft Geronimos Apaches G. A. Custer 7th cavalry Gold Rush prospectors (Hope I didn't forget any) All sets used are Nexus brand except the Eastern friendly Indians, the wagon train and the pioneers, they are Imex. Sets used consist of both full and partial sets. Now, I have to think up another diorama to top this one. LoL Hope you all enjoy it!
