Sugarland Elementary Thank You Video
On this #ThrowbackThursday we are going back to last Thursday when Sugarland Elementary visited Morven Park to participate in our Woodland Explorers program. While here, the group of 1st graders learned about the types of animals that call the woodland habitat home, the life cycles of trees, and what they can do to be good stewards of the woodland habitat.
A few of the 1st graders put together this video to say thank you to the Park staff. Morven Park wishes to thank @theJKCF, as busing was paid for by a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Good Neighbor Grant.

#DeepClean Update-
During this year's Deep Clean, the Collections Assistant noticed that one of the tapestries that hangs in the Davis Mansion needed a slight repair. She received instructions from Julia Brennan, a Textile Conservator at "Caring for Textiles" in D.C., for the best method for stabilizing the tapestry. Check out the video below for more details!

Pamela Butler - National Anthem - Polo in the Park
Thank you to Pamela Butler for singing the National Anthem at Polo in the Park last Saturday! Check out a video of her performance below. It was a beautiful night at Morven Park!
"Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way; O what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh!”
Christmas is over, but we’re still thinking about this catchy song, because our #MuseumMonday objects are sleighs and sleigh bells, located in the Winmill Carriage Museum...
Check out the lightweight Trap Sleigh in the background of this video, which could be pulled by one horse, making it a low-maintenance and convenient winter vehicle.
In our collection we've also got the traditional Albany Cutter, which became part of the popular portrayal of Santa Claus in the 19th century, as well as the Clamshell Sleigh, which could hold up to four people - all of whom would be able to stay warm due to the use of foot heaters! During rides, bells would be attached to the horses' harnesses as a way to signal to oncoming traffic.
Our Collections Manager Gwyneth MacMurtrie demonstrates the beautiful sound that these bells make. It sounds like Christmas all over again!
#ThrowbackThursday! Since it's #MPFallHorseTrials week, we're throwing it back twelve years to 2004 to look at some Horse Trials photos from that year's event! See if you recognize any of these riders and obstacles...
Stephanie Kenyon's Carriage Ride
Our Executive Director, Stephanie Kenyon, shared this video clip of her carriage ride on Sunday with the Piedmont Driving Club. Afterwards, they visited a winery and enjoyed a picnic lunch. Sounds like a perfect day!
Every once in a while, we museum staff get to experience something pretty special. In this case it was seeing and hearing the 1885 Steinway grand piano in the Mansion Drawing Room played by concert pianist Connie Olivera (of Olivera Music). After her mini-concert she pronounced the piano in good shape! The piano belonged to, and was played often by Marguerite Davis.
The White House Turkeys have arrived! Popcorn and Caramel made the trip from Mt. Vernon to Morven Park today and were introduced to their new home with the help of Morven Park staff and Morven Park turkey sponsor Janeen Marconi of Leesburg.
