Keeping the Fire Burning - Issuu

Ligonier Valley Historical Society would like to take a moment to spotlight one of our outstanding volunteers. Edward Appleby is one of our amazing blacksmiths at Compass Inn Museum & Ligonier Valley Historical Society, where he helps keep blacksmithing alive and thriving in the Laural Highlands. To learn more about the great work being done by blacksmiths in our community, please read the following article or go to compassinn.org for more details.

Ed Appleby spends his workday as an IT service architectural and decorative ironwork at Atlas Forge in provider tapping on a keyboard for projects seen Uniontown. Claypoole says he discovered blacksmithing on a computer screen. But in his spare time, Appleby can often be found hovering over an anvil...

Spring is nearly here, and so too, is the return of the Native Plant Sale! Ligonier Valley Historical Society and Penguin Court, a Preserve of Brandywine Conservancy, are excited to announce the dates for our 2021 Native Plant Sale!

Located in beautiful Laughlintown, both LVHS and Penguin Court are passionate about conserving and preserving the deeply rooted history and legacy of the Laurel Highlands. What better way to showcase Pennsylvania’s natural beauty than to adorn her in native, flowering plants? Planted strategically, these vibrant perennials could paint the rolling hills and gardens of the Laurel Highlands, through the spring, summer, and fall seasons.

Due to the high turnout and demand of last year’s sale, we have decided to add even more varieties of flowers and plants to further spread awareness of Pennsylvania’s natural wonders! Supplies are limited and will sell quickly.

As of now, this event is preorder and scheduled pickup ONLY. If COVID-19 restrictions change before May 8th, there is a possibility of an in-person sale.

Preorder catalogs and order forms will be available March 12, 2021! All preorders are due no later than April 30th. The plant sale will occur on May 8th, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, at Compass Inn Museum. Pickup times will be scheduled for each preorder.

If you would like to receive a catalog and order form, please contact Ligonier Valley Historical Society at 724-238-6818 or email us at [email protected].

Let's Drive an Indian Path, the Youtube Channel Many Don't Know The Revoluionary War Drama Of Hanna's Town (near Greensburg) I'll tell you why. Won't you join me as I continue along an ancient Indian path? We know it as the PA Turnpike. It's Youtube, and it's free! Check it out:
The latest Let's Drive an Indian Path! Youtube post from the PA Turnpike looks into the love lives of people who used the turnpike when it was a path in the woods. Many of them lived and were buried in the Ligonier area. You may be surprised how different Love and Marriage was for them. Was it better? I'll let you decide. Check it out, and please support my work with Let's Drive an Indian Path! by subscribing. It's free!
Indian trails once crossed the Ligonier Valley. In fact, they still do. You drive them every day and don't realize it. To find out about those routes, the ancient people who traveled them, and the settlers who followed, check out my recently launched Youtube channel: "Let's Drive an Indian Path."
Is there a reason why the website is down?
Stephie….looks like a neat place to visit when (if ever) we get to go to P.A. again all together.
I want to thank the staff of the Compass Inn for inviting me to bring Mrs. Lincoln to life on Sunday July 21 and for being so gracious in accomodating my needs. I look forward to visiting the Inn in the future.
Had a wonderful tour of the museum today provided by super-docent Karla. Her knowledge is encyclopedic and her passion is contagious. Keep up the excellent work!
Had a nice time today. It was nice the people were dressed in period clothes. Very knowledgeable Thanks

The tavern sits at the foot of Greentree Road in the West End of Pittsburgh. I invite those interested to visit our website postfriendstrust.org
