The staff at Ligonier Valley Historical Society and Compass Inn Museum understand the lasting effects the Coronavirus will have on our community. As of now, young children are out of school, confined to their homes. We are dedicated to the continuation of education for youth in the Ligonier Valley. Over the course of the foreseeable future, we will provide material, via Facebook, that we believe will entertain and educate the children in the community.

Today, we have two coloring sheets! One depicts the old cookhouse at Compass Inn Museum. The other depicts a 19th-century stagecoach! ENJOY!

Our Executive Director, Theresa, and Program Coordinator, Amanda, are participating in the Heartland Travel Showcase! It was a long haul to Michigan, but it’s worth it! They will be encouraging motorcoach tour operators to make Ligonier, and all it has to offer, a destination for their tours. Imagine that trip on an 18th-century stagecoach!

Happy President's Day!

Ligonier Valley Historical Society & Compass Inn Museum wishes you a happy President's Day! Did you know many of the nation’s leaders and their presidential predecessors were avid gardeners? George Washington was titled the "Botanist President,” do to his obsession with plants. John Adams planted the first vegetable garden on the White House grounds. Theodore Roosevelt was given the title “Conservationist President,” eventually creating the U.S. Forest Service. LVHS would like to think these plant-loving presidents would be first in line for this spring’s Native Plant Sale!

This week, lets take a look at a pair of milkweeds for sale!

Stephie….looks like a neat place to visit when (if ever) we get to go to P.A. again all together.
I want to thank the staff of the Compass Inn for inviting me to bring Mrs. Lincoln to life on Sunday July 21 and for being so gracious in accomodating my needs. I look forward to visiting the Inn in the future.
Had a wonderful tour of the museum today provided by super-docent Karla. Her knowledge is encyclopedic and her passion is contagious. Keep up the excellent work!

As the president of Pittsburgh's Old Stone Tavern Friends Trust, Inc. in Pittsburgh I hope that some day we can restore our old tavern circa 1782 the oldest commercial building in Pittsburgh to its rightful place in Western Pennsylvania History. The tavern sits at the foot of Greentree Road in the West End of Pittsburgh. I invite those interested to visit our website postfriendstrust.org
The ligonier country market needs your help. We entered a national poster contest that ends at midnight. We currently have 768 votes and second place has 762. Please click the link, touch the photo and hit like. It would be amazing for our area to receive national recognition. https://m.facebook.com/fmc.org/photos/a.1481841388534365.1073741839.111200858931765/1511507462234424/?type=3&source=54
