Dan is a CNH retiree with 31 years service. The program at the Boettcher House, located behind the Neffsville Mennonite Church on the Lititz Pike, is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 8 at 2:00 pm. Admission and parking are free.

The Boettcher House concert, Corsair Blue Jazz Orchestra (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Corsair-Blue-Jazz-Orchestra/1450716448479604) is scheduled for Sunday, July 12, at 7:30 pm outdoors in the Landis Woods Performing Arts Center. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and/or blankets and, if
they wish, picnic food. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held inside the Boettcher House, where there is limited seating.

There are two ways to access Landis Woods and the Boettcher House. One is from the Lititz Pike and Hillside Lane, next to the Neffsville Mennonite Church. The other is from Meadow Lane, directly north of the park across from the Neffsville Post Office. Admission is free and there is ample parking on the grounds.

The Corsair Blue Jazz Orchestra was formed in the winter of 2013 by a group of friends who had played together when they were students at Manheim Township High School from 1975 to 1978. It was established to perform big band swing music for seniors, service veterans and communities of Central Pennsylvania.

After a successful opening season in 2014 at venues as diverse as Cassel Vineyards in Hershey, Highland Presbyterian Church and Willow Valley, CBJO opened this season at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Following were concerts at Columbia High School and then at the Lancaster Marriot Hotel for the Veritas Press Academy. Upcoming are engagements at the Coatesville VA Medical Center, the Boettcher House Museum and a return visit to Cassel Vineyards.

The current roster of the group, ranging in age from 17 to 75, includes six trombones, five trumpets, six reeds, four percussionists and a vocalist. One of the sax players also sings.

Members are educators, business professionals, retirees, students and military veterans. Lon Prosser, one of the co-founders, is the director. The orchestra strives for performance excellence by being true to original music performed by people like swing legends Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Count Basie.

Boettcher House Museum kicks off its 2015 series of monthly programs on Sunday, March 15, with a presentation by KPETS, an organization that provides therapeutic benefits through the use of pets (mostly dogs) to people with physical, emotional and mental challenges. (http://www.kpets.org/)

KPETS (Keystone Pet Enhanced Therapy Services) began in 2001 as a small group of volunteers in Lancaster County and today has grown to encompass more than 300 pet/handler teams throughout Central Pennsylvania, plus select communities in Maryland, Delaware and Arizona.

In the Boettcher House program, which begins at 2:00 pm, KPETS executive director Karen Gerth will describe how pet therapy works, explaining the differences between therapy and service dogs. Several volunteer teams, comprising a dog and a handler, will be introduced to talk about dog safety, proper conduct relative to the dogs, commands and tricks. Members of the audience will get to meet the dogs up close following the formal part of the program.

The Boettcher House is located in Landis Woods Park, accessible two ways. One is from the Lititz Pike and Hillside Lane, just south of Neffsville next to the Neffsvile Mennonite Church. The other is from Meadow Lane, across from the Neffsville Post Office. There is no admission cost and parking is available on the surrounding Landis Woods grounds.

Patrons are invited to visit the house beginning at 1:00 to see the natural history and photographic displays before the program begins. An early arrival is suggested because fire regulations prevent the Boettcher House from seating more people in the building than the law allows.
