Knoxville 89, United Daughters of the Confederacy

Knoxville 89, United Daughters of the Confederacy Knoxville Chapter 89, United Daughters of the Confederacy was organized on 16 November 1896.

Founded in 1896, Knoxville Chapter 89 is one of the oldest United Daughters of the Confederacy chapters in the organization. Knoxville Chapter 89 is proud to own & maintain Confederate Memorial Hall - Bleak House. The house, which was completed in 1858 and presented as a wedding present to Robert & Louisa Armstrong. The house was the headquarters for Confederate General James Longstreet in Novembe

r 1862 during the Siege of Knoxville. The chapter purchased in house in 1951 to serve as a meeting house & Confederate museum. Knoxville Chapter 89 is proud to continue to traditions of preserving our Confederate Heritage, History & Traditions.

Our next Meeting is Wednesday, 22 June 2016. We will meet at the Bleak House at 12 Noon. It is our Annual Pot Luck Picnic! All are invited to attend. Those attending please bring a dish to share! Most important is the installation of our new Executive Board.

At our Wednesday meeting our member Barbara Jean gave a touching Memorial Service for her Aunt Ruth. She was 92 years old and a member of our Chapter. Then we honored Lynn Hatcher as our newest Honorary Associate Member! So exciting, we also voted in the Chapter Officers 2016-2018. Yesterday the Union County Cemetery Association along with other groups including SCV Camp 87 Dedicated Markers for some unmarked Confederate and Union Soldiers. Speaker: Mike Beck, Immediate SCV Past TN Division Pressident
Location: Old Gray Cemetery, Knoxville, TN

Parking instructions: Please park outside the Cemetery on Tyson Street, which provides better access to our location inside the Cemetery and easier parking, guaranteed. Tyson Street is just to the North of the Old Gray entrance on Broadway, and it borders the Eastern boundary of the Cemetery, with a walk-in gate for easy access.

The camp welcomes all East Tennessee SCV Camps and UDC Chapters to join their brothers of SCV Camp 87 at this annual Decoration Day Ceremony.

Below are pictures from a very delightful Tea at the Longstreet House hosted by the Sam Davis #410 UDC Chapter. The ladies put on a wonderful table of all kinds of goodies! Our own Caroline Blank provided a wonderful presentation "Tea Time." She discussed the history of tea and tea etiquette. We all learned a lot! Hope that she will share her presentation with our chapter. A big THANKS to the members of Sam Davis Chapter!!!!
