Today has been identified as a National Day of Action to urge Congress and the Administration to enact SNAP benefit boosts in the next COVID-19 relief package.

The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) has stated that reports indicate the next package will include assistance for businesses and healthcare efforts, but not SNAP — we stand with KC Healthy Kids and other allies to insist that individuals and families who desperately need relief get immediate assistance, too.

Contact your Senators and Representatives (call, email, tag on social media; find the right information for you at contactingcongress.org) and urge them to include SNAP in the next COVID-19 package. #endhungernow

Buy a shirt, support a KC hospitality worker.

Such a simple idea, launched by Kansas City creatives Anna Petrow and Frank Norton as a campaign of solidarity and support. They write, "Our local, independent restaurants are closing their dining rooms to help protect Kansas Citians. Now you can help protect them. 100% of the net proceeds from KC Runs on Hospitality shirt sales will go directly back our locally-owned restaurants to distribute to their employees. Thank you for your support!”

China Celebrates First Dragon Boat Festival in Space

Did you know? When Yang Liwei, China’s first astronaut to enter space, blasted off in 2003, what he would be eating was national news, including Kung Pao Chicken. A decade later, in 2013, it was *front-page news* that the crew of the Shenzhou 10 would also be bringing this classic dish, and so it was only fitting that Chef Mullins selected it as part of his 2019 #kempergala menu, comprised of dishes countries around the world have sent into space!

Read the article which inspired Café Sebastienne to include Kung Pao Chicken on Saturday's menu:

China’s Shenzhou 10 space capsule launched successfully Tuesday from the edges of the Gobi Desert, carrying three astronauts and some special holiday food for today’s Dragon Boat Festival which commemorates the su***de of a poet and statesman nearly 2,300 years ago.

Go behind-the-scenes with Chef Rick Mullins and artist Angel Otero to hear more about the collaboration which led to last month's Artist Dinner Series event! Thanks to KCPT's Flatland for this awesome video feature:

"Angel Otero routinely punctuates his sentences with 'it’s dope' and a chuckle. The 38-year-old artist from Santurce, Puerto Rico, is larger than life, but his mixed-media installation 'Diario' at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art is even larger. It’s his largest work to date. The commissioned work is the fourth in the museum’s Atrium Project series curated by Erin Dziedzic, director of curatorial affairs at the Kemper Museum." ––Vicky Diaz-Camacho, KCPT's Flatland

"Rick Mullins started cooking in Kansas City eight years ago and has since worked with Kansas City favorites like Bluestem, Bread & Butter Concepts, and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Now he stands as Executive Chef of Café Sebastienne at Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, where he works with his kitchen team to create menus that complement the art and appeal to international crowds. "In the past three decades, Jaramillo not only made a name for herself worldwide but was also integral to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art’s beginnings. Her work was among those that began Kansas City’s only contemporary museum’s collection, said Erin Dziedzic, director of curatorial affairs at the Kemper Museum.
