We couldn't be more pleased that our new exhibition Nature's Blueprints: Biomimicry in Art and Design is opening at Putnam Museum!
“The Putnam is the first stop on this exhibit’s national tour and we’re honored to be selected for its premiere. Our ability to host this exhibit—our first traveling show since before the pandemic—speaks to the Putnam’s resiliency and the many ways that the Quad-City community has supported cultural institutions during this difficult period in history,” says Rachael Mullins, CEO/President of the Putnam.

Arte Cubano | EUSA

The contemporary art of Cuba is the focus of Arte Cubano. The works, drawn from two private collections in the US, illustrate the creativity of twenty-five artists of this island nation. Cuban art is so rich in large part because of its diverse cultural blend of African, European, and Latin/Caribbean influences, and its roots in revolution.

It opens in August at Iowa State University.

Congratulations to the winner of the LJHA's apron contest, held in conjunction with the exhibition Apron Strings: Ties to the Past!
Catch it on view at Lake Jackson Historical Association through August 11.

AND THE WINNER IS!
WINE R***E owner Autumn Barrister holds a picture of the apron she deemed winner of LJHA’s apron contest. The apron featuring one large pocket for clothespins was designed and crafted by Linda Louise Fossett-Hensen, a professional seamstress. For 30 years, she owned, operated, and sewed at Brazoswood Cleaners, last located at #20 Circle Way. Provenzano Properties now occupies the site. Linda made the apron from flour sacks collected by her mother, who lived on a farm during the Depression years. While a student at Brazosport High School in the late 1950’s, Linda created the apron and tucked it away in her “hope chest.” The flour sacks came by way of the FANT Milling Company (which subsequently became the Calumet Milling Co.) in Sherman, Texas. According to Linda, the materials in the apron are about 100 years old!

CONGRATULATIONS, Linda, and thanks for participating in the contest.
