A little cemetery information:

Animal depictions on tombstones have been popular for centuries. However, during the Victorian Era, the lamb became a popular emblem for children’s and infants’ graves. Lambs, which are tied to the Lamb of God, represent innocence. The lamb can also symbolize meekness, gentleness, humility, and sacrifice. Often times, these animals are found engraved into the front of tombstones. Lambs can also be carved into the bottom or top of the marker, like this headstone found in Whitley County’s Troy Cemetery.

But then again, a lamb does not always mean a child. Check out Sophia Head's stone. She was 44 when she died. Every time there is a rule for symbols, we find someone who breaks it.

Why preserving history.

Today, ice is something we all take for granted, but 200 years ago refrigeration meant cutting ice, by hand, from Maine's lakes and ponds. There is still one place keeping that tradition alive. http://bit.ly/2EBiaVX
