Debra Garcia y Griego, our new Secretary of the Department of Cultural Affairs!

Congratulations to Debra Garcia y Griego, our new Secretary of the Department of Cultural Affairs! We are thrilled to have her experience as the Director of the City of Santa Fe Arts Commission and as a native New Mexican to help propel our important cultural assets into the future.

"It's often easy to get confused about what is federal and what is state and what is local. But our historic sites are open and ready for business and ready for visitors. … They are a great asset for visitors because they combine culture, history and, in many cases, outdoor recreation. I think they are a rising gem in our portfolio.."

AMP Concerts - Light Among the Ruins

The enormous popularity of the Jemez Historic Site’s breath-taking and beloved Light Among the Ruins annual holiday event has necessitated changes this year to accommodate large crowds.

“This is a magical, and absolutely captivating event that is much beloved! Word about what a magnificent spectacle this is has spread, so we have had to come up with a new plan to manage the overflow crowds anticipated this year,” said Matthew Barbour, Regional Manager of the Jemez and Coronado Historic Sites “In the past, Light Among the Ruins has always been popular, but this year, the overwhelming interest we’ve seen on social media prompted us to stagger the times of the event, and to cover the expense of traffic, staffing and crowd management we will now charge a per person fee.”

In addition to covering the cost of hosting Light Among the Ruins, any additional funds collected beyond expenses will help provide for preservation, future exhibits and programs at the Jemez Historic Site.

Light Among the Ruins will be held Saturday, December 8 from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. There are nine blocks of tickets with staggered arrival times every half hour. Reservations are being taken online for every half-hour between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. (5 p.m., 5 :30 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m., 8:30 p.m., 9 p.m.)

The event will go on regardless of the weather. No refunds. Shuttles will be available to and from the Jemez Historic Site to parking locations in the Village of Jemez Springs.

Tickets on sale starting at 8 a.m. on November 1: Adult $10 and Children (16 & under) $5. Purchase tickets at http://www.ampconcerts.org/event/324777/light-among-the-ruins

NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY PERMITTED.

To clarify, although it is in half hour blocks, guests can stay as long as they like! We are simply staggering entrance times to accommodate as many visitors as comfortably possible during this magical event!

The ruins of Gisewa Pueblo and San José de los Jemez Mission Church will be decorated with hundreds of traditional farolitos. The evening's events will include Native American flute music and Native American dancers performing between two bonfires (luminarias).
