The Indiana Academy of Science is cosponsoring a BioBlitz event at Conner Prairie will be held on June 8th and 9th. Bioblitzes are intensive surveys of an area where participants attempt to locate and identify as many different species of organisms in that area within a 24 hour period. 128th Annual Indiana Academy of Science Meeting

Description

The 128th Annual Academy Meeting will bring together noted nationally and locally recognized Indiana Scientists from academia and industry, and Science Educators; and Indiana Graduate and Undergraduate Science Students, to share some of this country’s latest developments in scientific research, and recognize peers at the forefront of this work. Indiana Academy of Science members, and non-members, are invited to attend this once a year meeting. The 128th Annual Academy Meeting will take place at the J.W. Marriott Hotel, 10 S. West Street, in downtown Indianapolis Indiana, on Saturday March 9, 2013. It will begin at 7:00 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m.

Registration fees include Continental Breakfast, the 128th Annual Academy Luncheon, and the Annual Academy Networking Reception. Student registration includes an Indiana Academy of Science T-Shirt.

On site Registration will be available March 9, 2013.

Introduced Version, Senate Bill 0089

Indiana Senate Bill SB 89 of the current legislative session would enable governing bodies of school corporations to require the teaching of creation science and other non-scientific beliefs concerning the origin of life (see http://www.in.gov/legislative/bills/2012/IN/IN0089.1.html).

In 2006 the IAS passed a resolution concerning the teaching of evolution. This resolution can be viewed at http://www.indianaacademyofscience.org/Documents/IAS-Evolution-Resolution.aspx

Synopsis: Teaching of creation science. Provides that the governing body of a school corporation may require the teaching of various theories concerning the origin of life, including creation science, within the school corporation.

Online abstract submission for the 127th Meeting of the Indiana Academy of Science is now open. The deadline for submissing your abstract is February 10th. go to www.indianaacademyofscience.org to register and upload your abstract. The meeting will be Saturday, March 10th at the Stewart Conference Center on Purdue University campus in W. Lafayette. We hope to see you there!
