Cups for Y'all Feature: Bold + Painterly ⚫🍎🌫️🐗⚪

This week is for the cup you buy because you can't stop looking at it. Representing team Germany, 🏆⚽🇩🇪 where Westerwald stoneware has been speaking in deep black and blue-grey for centuries—surfaces that reward those who look closely.

Felt+Fat () is a Philadelphia-based ceramics studio creating handmade porcelain tableware that is both minimalist and bold. Known for its proprietary clay bodies and custom glazes, the studio’s work is highly regarded and used by chefs and restaurants worldwide.

Steph Becker () is an illustrator, painter, and ceramic artist whose practice centers on making one-of-a-kind objects, often featuring adorable animals. Her work has been exhibited across the U.S., including at the Museum of Art and Design and the MoMA in New York. Steph currently lives and works in Kansas City, MO, making drawings and ceramics to support herself and her dachshund.

Los Angeles–based artist Zack Nathanson () works between pottery and sculpture, drawing heavily from modernist and brutalist architecture, as well as graphic and industrial design. His vessels often incorporate typography directly into the surface, challenging how and what is consumed—the cup is not just something you drink from.

Working under the studio name Knook Ceramics (), Asheville-based artist Diana Hoover creates wheel-thrown pieces that combine minimalist forms with bold, highly precise geometric patterns inspired by Bauhaus design.

“Cups for Y’all” is on view for one more week, until June 6!

1. Felt+Fat, “Mug and Saucer in Arctic” $85
2. Steph Becker, “Boar Mug” $65
3. Zack Nathanson, “IMO mug” $100
4. Diana Hoover, “Space Mug” $70 – Photo courtesy of the artist by Whitney Ott ()

Cups for Y'all Feature: Theatrical Poetry 🟣🍑🔮✴️

Dramatic, folkloric, and a little spellbound. Representing team Spain, 🏆⚽🇪🇸 where Talavera de la Reina, Moorish lustreware, and Andalusian tile traditions revel in ornament and rich colors. These artists lean into that lineage—treating the cup as a charged object, something decorative but daring, made to hold more than what’s poured inside.

Ceramic artist Maxwell Henderson () is known for wild forms and vibrant color. After studying at Arizona State University and Pennsylvania State University, he earned his MFA from the University of Nebraska. His recent residencies include La Serra Collective, Red Lodge Clay Center, and the American Museum of Ceramic Art, where he now serves as studio manager.

Houston-based artist Komie Kim Le () is a second-generation Vietnamese American and 90’s kid whose work explores the duality of her cultural roots through food-centric compositions. Working with clay and other materials, she builds layered scenes that echo her upbringing. Komie holds a BFA in ceramics from Texas State University and is a recent recipient of the NCECA Multicultural Fellowship.

New Orleans–based Panacea Theriac () began her career in art and puppetry as a child. Performing as “Quintron and Miss Pussycat” (), Panacea tours around the world, sharing her music and puppetry. In her multidisciplinary art practice—including ceramics, painting, and photography—Panacea builds shrine-like tributes to her beloved puppets and their worlds.

Anna Danyang Song (.art) is a China-born artist and educator with a BFA from Tsinghua University and an MFA in Ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design. She is currently a faculty member and ceramic studio manager at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is included in the collections of Harvard Art Museums and Tsinghua University.

Cups for Y'all Feature: Warm Wood + Amber 🍂🟠🪵

Grounded in place, memory, and material, these pieces nod to the Guaraní and Diaguita clay traditions of Argentina 🏺🌎🇦🇷, which stretch back thousands of years across the Southern Cone, drawing from a landscape rich in terracotta, amber, and sunbaked ochre. This week’s group of “Cups for Y’all” artists present forms that are warm, earthen, and timeworn.

Alex Larsen (.larsen) is a Houston-based artist working across sculpture, ceramics, painting, and photography, with a background in large-scale public art fabrication. Alex holds a BFA from MICA (2010) and co-founded Fulcrum (.htx), a sculpture and fabrication studio. Alex also maintains a multidisciplinary studio practice, largely inspired by the construction and demolition of the man-made environment.

Isabel Wilson () is a textile and clothing designer based in Houston. She lived and worked in New York City for nearly ten years, designing for Marc Jacobs and Phillip Lim, before Houston called her home. Her designs can be found across town, including at Jardín () in Houston’s Montrose neighborhood. Isabel’s ceramics mimic the lyrical warmth of her apparel pieces.

Maranda Powers () is a multidisciplinary artist based in New Orleans. She is curious about all forms of clay and has been exploring slip casting, 3D printing, and wild clays. Her work plays with the boundaries between art and craft, challenging hierarchy and tradition. Maranda holds a BA in Studio Art and Health and Wellness, and is currently a ceramics teacher and studio tech at the Clay Center of New Orleans.

Sarah Vaughn () is a glass artist based in North Carolina, creating sculptural works through an experimental hot-glass practice. She enjoys life in the mountains, where she spends time with her dog while pursuing new veins of her work and fixing broken rocks.

“Cups for Y’all” is on view now through June 6.

2. Isabel Wilson, “Marbled Clay Mugs” $69
