The Divearium

The Divearium The Divearium will be a unique scuba diving venue that combines a dive training site and an underwater fauna and flora gallery/museum within a partially simulated aquarium environment.
The Virginia Divearium, Inc. is a nonprofit formed to support the project, and is soon to receive official 501c3 status from the IRS.

The Divearium will be unlike any other scuba diving venue on planet Earth; a facility that merges elements of a diver training site and an underwater museum within a simulated aquarium environment. This facility will be constructed in and around a local freshwater quarry.

Mission: 1. To continually encourage and educate scuba divers to become increasingly active in the care and conservation of all aquatic habitats. 2. To set up a multi-purpose inland scuba diving venue that will invigorate the local diving community and increase diver participation.

I was just informed by the PWC Assistant Director of Parks and Rec that the lease draft will be up for reviewing by us within a couple weeks.
This has been a very slow process, and it looks like that will continue to be the case for awhile. Anyone who has worked with the government knows how tedious it can be. Lots of hoops to go through. But we look ahead at what promises to be an extraordinary inland diving experience!

Hi folks,
The Prince William County Parks Commission will hold their 3rd meeting on June 20 to determine next steps for the project. The Deputy Director gave me an unofficial indication that a lease on the quarry may happen as soon as July. Looks like The Divearium may soon be a reality! Will keep you posted.

The acquiring of Silver Lake Quarry as the site for The Divearium is moving forward!
On June 21 my business associate and I gave a presentation to the Prince William County Parks and Recreation Commission, and the 10-member group unanimously voted to forward a recommendation to the General Board.
Since then, we have dove the quarry 6 times, gathering important data on the underwater environment, depth measurements at different points, etc.
We also submerged and anchored a Jacques Cousteau Timeline and a sample Aquascape.
Our follow-up meeting with the Commission will take place on October 18th.
There's still a lot to be discussed and done, but momentum is gaining!

Hi all...I'll be presenting my project tonight during the Made In FredVA contest. I was one of five finalist, and the winner will receive $10K toward startup money. I'm so grateful to be given the opportunity to share this vision/mission.
