Today we remember John Lennon on what would've been his 86th birthday. This RMI Electra-Piano used to belong to Elephant's Memory, New York-based psychedelic rock group and John and Yoko's backing band after they moved to New York City in late 1971.
But did you know that the RMI Electra-Piano also plays a small part in John's most famous song "Imagine"? There was an identical RMI 300 in John's studio Tittenhurst (you can see the stripes of the instrument next to John in the 2nd photo) and the RMI was played as a complement to John's iconic piano riff by session player extraordinaire Nicky Hopkins (3rd picture).
Happy Birthday John! You're still missed even now!

Today we remember Who bassist John Entwistle on what would've been his 82nd birthday. In the words of Pete Townshend, Entwistle "had the power to change the f***ing instrument". His more melodic and guitar-like approach to bass, combining harmonic distortion and a flamenco-like fingerstyle, really influenced a whole generation of bass players to go beyond the traditional role of bass in popular music. So much so that he was named "Bassist of the Millennium" by Guitar Magazine in 2000 and that influence has never waned. And we have several pieces of John's legacy in our Who exhibit, including one of his signature "The Ox" Hiwatt amplifiers.

Happy Birthday to Mike Rutherford of Genesis and Mike + The Mechanics who turns 76 today! An accomplished and versatile bassist, guitarist and songwriter who made great use of customized double neck guitars and bass pedals to fill out the sound of Genesis. We have a small but mightily heavy Mesa Boogie guitar amplifier on display that was once Mike's and most likely took part in some legendary recording sessions. You can hear Mike's immense contributions on every single Genesis and Mike + The Mechanics album just to know how much his unique talents factor into the history of both of those legendary bands. Happy Birthday Mike!

Happy Birthday to Sting who turns 75 today. We know him as the bassist and frontman of The Police, but he's an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who has worked in multiple genres and was among the bass players who adopted the iconic Moog Ta**us pedals into his setup in the 70s and 80s. And we're honored to have one set of his pedals on display in our collection. These Ta**us pedals even features some extra switches and k***s that enabled Sting to control stage lighting. Listen to Invisible Sun from the Ghost In The Machine album to really hear the Ta**us pedals in action!
