Rich McGuigan Photo My name is Rich McGuigan, and I’ve been a professional photographer in New York City for over 25 years.

“My goal is to ensure that beautiful landscape images remain a reflection of our present, rather than becoming reminders of what we’ve lost because we failed to act in time.” I’ve worked in retail, advertising, editorial and ecommerce. Much of that time has been spent building and managing large photography studios for premier retailers and clients. I graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Visual Communications, Applied Photography. After graduation I moved from Delaware to New York City where I assisted several photographers, ran my own studio and worked for companies such as Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, CreativeDrive and Accenture Song Production Studios. My current project “a celebration of water” is designed to showcase beautiful images of waterfalls, rivers, lakes and oceans. With this new project I have taken a step away from product photography and embraced the need to create meaningful images of our environment. Most importantly, as part of this new project each print sold will include a significant charitable contribution to an organization actively working to cleanup the worlds oceans.

This is the kind of place that reminds me why I started A Celebration of Water.

THE STORY BEHIND “ARRIVAL”

I didn't go out that morning looking for a photograph called Arrival.

I went looking for the sunrise.

But as I stood there watching the light slowly spread across the water, I realized the photograph wasn't really about the sun.

It was about the moment
before
it.

That quiet space between darkness and daylight.

The beach was nearly empty. The tide was moving gently across the sand. A few birds wandered through the shallows. Everything felt suspended in time.

And then the sun appeared.

Not dramatically.

Almost quietly.

It arrived.

That's when I made the photograph.

I called it
Arrival
because sometimes the most meaningful moments aren't the ones that demand your attention.

They're the ones that quietly reveal themselves if you're willing to stop and look.

ARRIVAL — BEFORE THE DAY BEGINS

This is what it felt like to be there.

The sound of the water.

The cool morning air.

The beach almost completely empty.

The sun just beginning to break across the horizon.

One of the reasons I photograph water is that a still photograph can preserve a moment—but being there is something else entirely.

You hear it.

You feel it.

You become part of it.

Then the sun rises, and the moment is gone.

Until you look at the photograph again.

ARRIVAL — LOOK CLOSER

The photograph changes when you stop looking at the sunrise.

Look instead at the water.

Follow the thin line of reflected light as it travels across the wet sand.

Notice the small waves.

The birds standing in the shallows.

The subtle textures left behind by the retreating tide.

Nothing here is dramatic.

And that's exactly what drew me to it.

Sometimes the smallest details are where the photograph lives.

What do you notice first?

ARRIVAL

There is a moment just before the day begins when everything seems to pause.

The ocean is quiet.
The beach is nearly empty.
The last darkness of night still hangs over the horizon.

And then, slowly, the light arrives.

I made this photograph in those first quiet moments of morning, when the world hasn't quite decided what the day will become.

No spectacle.
No drama.

Just water, light, and the promise of another day.

Arrival

From my ongoing celebration of water.

What does sunrise make you feel—peace, hope, anticipation, or something else?

Every sunrise arrives without asking the world if it’s ready.

The ocean doesn’t rush.
The tide doesn’t force its way forward.
The light simply returns—steady, patient, certain.

There will be seasons when the horizon feels distant, when the clouds seem too heavy to break. But even then, beyond what you can see, the sun is still rising.

Let this moment be a reminder:
You do not have to have everything figured out to move forward.
You only need to keep showing up—wave after wave, day after day.

Light has a way of finding its opening.

Every print contributes to organizations working on ocean cleanup. I invite you to visit my online gallery at http://richmcguiganphoto.com
