Proud and hopeful for a future of Restore, Preserve, and Share Alaska's oldest original lighthouse. Fantastic on-scene coverage by Jasz and other reporters of our Flag Raising Ceremony, on scene ribbon cutting, and a flotilla of three generously donated vessels by local supporting corporations; not to mention a magical 4-5 hour break in the weather! You name it, this day was a milestone for us. As many of our BOD emails close with, we now say..."ONWARD!" A rally cry for those before us and those to follow that keep this lighthouse as a symbol of a united and cohesive N. Lynn Canal community! Today we celebrate the 120th Anniversary of Eldred Rock Lighthouse. Commissioned on June 1, 1906, Eldred Rock is Alaska's oldest original lighthouse. Just a few hours after the Grand Opening cruises left the island on Saturday, the newly raised flags were already tested as the windy seas built. Just like Alaskan residents, this lighthouse has endured the harshest conditions and stands now as a symbol of resilience, hard work, freedom, and community spirit.
