Today is National Kentucky Day!
This plate is part of our State Seal Collection. The collection was commissioned in 1984 by IPAT, with a goal of 50 plates from 50 artists. This plate was painted by Lou Hubbard Yates, donated to the museum in 1984. This holiday commemorates the day Kentucky got statehood, they are the 15th state to join the Union. Celebrate today with Bluegrass and Bourbon! Visit the museum to see more porcelain painted plates!

Happy National Mushroom Day!
This is a Tea Set titled "Mushrooms" by Margaret Surber. Donated by the artist in 1980, this set resides in our Master's Hall. This holiday was created to celebrate the benefits and medicinal uses of these fungi. Cook a hardy stew and watch out for great deals at your local market! Tag us in any fungi festivities and come see this gorgeous tea set in person here at the museum!

Today is National Dessert Day!
This artwork is a painted cake plate titled "Dresden" by Vada Morrett. Donated to the museum in 1980by Robert Morrett, this piece is in out Master's Hall. With Dresden flowers and bugs in the center surrounded by gold scrolls, this is definitely a fancy cake plate fit for a Queen. This is "Forget-me-not" by Clara Green, donated to the museum in 2008 by Celeste McCall. This holiday is here to celebrate the nutritious value of eggs along with their many uses. Come to the museum to see our porcelain painted eggs!

Happy World Octopus Day!
This is our museum mascot Octavia! She was hand-built in our Carriage House Studio by Nancy Benedetti. Donated by the artist in 2020, she resides in the Master's Hall in a case we call Octavia's Corner. This holiday was created to support their safety and conservation. Come and visit the museum to see our mascot Octavia the Octopus!

The primary birth flower this month is the Marigold. This artwork is "Marigolds-National Flower of United Arab Emirates" by Mika Mikita. Donated to the museum in 2012, this piece resides in our International Hall. Come and celebrate the start of the month with us here at the museum!
