Oct 4th Granby Artists 25th Anniversary Celebration ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: Sally Sargent Markey

Over the years I’ve found that the lines between abstract fine art, crafts, and illustration seem very arbitrary. I try to use principles of composition, rhythms, and color learned in school in all my work, be it abstract, craft-related, or detailed botanical illustration.

Oct 4th Granby Artists 25th Anniversary Celebration ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: Rita Law-McConaughy

I let the feelings of that moment evolve as I paint, delving deeper into the image through color choices, shapes, the energy or calm of brush strokes,
layers of paint, movement, and particular elements that accompany that memory.

Oct 4th Granby Artists 25th Anniversary Celebration ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: Pam Jones

My inspiration comes from the woodlands and brooks around me, and the way the play of light transforms the mundane into the beautiful.  My art is a journey that I waited until retirement to begin, and I thank you for your interest in my interpretations as I embark on it.

Oct 4th Granby Artists 25th Anniversary Celebration ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: Martha Hess

Those early dabs of burnt umber and ultramarine have led to myriad experiments and glad journeys on canvas. That first morning’s venture in painting happened, in part, because I didn’t know what I didn’t know. And though I like to think that my hours at the easel have yielded greater knowledge, a fresh canvas—and sometimes a former painting that now seems incomplete—can feel, depending on my mood, like an invitation or a dare. No matter. It’s all an adventure, an ongoing adventure I feel fortunate to have in my life.

Oct 4th Granby Artists 25th Anniversary Celebration ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: Karen Dalecki

The New England coast is the subject of many of her paintings. Wooden boats (especially catboats), lighthouses, and barns are the subject of many of her landscapes and seascapes.  Karen also paints house portraits, boat portraits, still-life, and abstracts.  She travels to capture images on film and more recently digitally. Beginning with a thumbnail sketch, she works into a larger pencil drawing. Larger pieces often require a watercolor study which leads to the final watercolor painting.

Oct 4th Granby Artists 25th Anniversary Celebration ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: Emma Brunton

Based in North Granby, Connecticut, I work primarily in oil on wood panels and paper, creating still lifes, landscapes, and portraits of people and animals. Whether working from life, painting outdoors, or using reference photographs, I strive to capture the character of each subject with an emphasis on light, color, and composition.

Oct 4th Granby Artists 25th Anniversary Celebration ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: Jon Wilson

My journey is focused on wood turning. I harvest my own timber and create handmade bowls and platters. I utilize form, balance, and experience to bring out the best in the timber.  I show what the timber has hidden in beautiful forms and vessels.

Oct 4th Granby Artists 25th Anniversary Celebration ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: Mark A. Gottlieb

Mark Gottlieb has blown glass since 2004, he got serious about it 2006 and works now in a hot shop on a regular basis. The thought of building a hot shop of his own had been developing for a couple years before becoming reality in spring 2015.

Oct 4th Granby Artists 25th Anniversary Celebration ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: Joy Marx

I began oil painting in the 1970s in an afternoon “mom’s” class. I fell in love with the process. I am a proud member of the Granby Artists Association, serving as past Secretary and currently as Vice President.  I have made many friends with whom I’ve happily worked on events the association conducts each year.
