In times like these it is great to post some good news. We congratulate Ariel Barrera for being awarded an intern position in the American Museum of Natural History's North American Archaeology lab! Great work Ariel!
At Adelphi, students gain a strong appreciation for the major tenets and principal methods used in Anthropology today. They also gain an initial exposure to national and international networks that support anthropological research.

Anthropology is the study of human beings from their biological origins to their learned cultures and behaviors. A social science that bridges the natural sciences with the arts and humanities, our anthropology major will provide you with a broad and substantive liberal arts education. Through anthropology, you will gain practical experience in research, written and oral communication, and analytical thinking skills as well as an appreciation for the complexity of human experience through time. You will understand the pressing issues that face our global community and graduate with highly marketable skill sets, as demonstrated by our alumni, who are successfully employed in a wide range of occupations. Our graduates have also received admission to prestigious graduate schools. The anthropology major offers subfields in cultural and medical anthropology, physical/forensic anthropology and archaeology. The Anthropology Department at Adelphi University invites applications for a Part Time Faculty member in Cultural Anthropology beginning January 2020. We seek applicants who have completed or are currently working toward a PhD in Anthropology or a related field. Applicants should have demonstrated teaching experience in cultural anthropology.
The Part Time faculty will teach two introduction to Cultural Anthropology undergraduate courses (Monday-Wednesday-Friday) in Spring 2020. Additional courses may be possible for subsequent semesters.
Applicants should have demonstrated research and teaching expertise in cultural anthropology. A Ph.D. in Anthropology or ABD is preferred at the time of appointment.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information for three references. To ensure full consideration, applications should be received by November 22, 2019. Direct inquiries to the Department Chair, Prof. Hanna Kim ([email protected]).

Applications are open for the NSF-REU (National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates) 2020 summer program in biological anthropology – the Bioarchaeology of Bronze Age Social Systems. This program is an immersive experience for undergraduate students, where you will learn to conduct hands-on research with archaeological human skeletal remains from Bronze Age Arabia, receive mentorship from guest scientists, and engage in public outreach – all while earning a $500/week stipend!
The REU will run from May 18-July 11, 2020 at the University of South Alabama, located on the Gulf Coast. The application deadline is February 12, 2020.
Undergraduate students, especially those considering graduate school, and students from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

Alumna Marion Davidson (‘16) spoke to a packed house on Monday, April 9 about her research on cognitive bias in Forensic Anthropology. Marion is currently pursuing graduate studies in bioarchaeology and forensic anthropology at University College London.
