Time is running out to enter our "Sidewalk Chalk" contest!

The instructions are simple—chart a section of pavement and go to town using the theme of “Celebrating Frederick.” Then, take a high-resolution, in-focus photo of your creation and email it to [email protected] by this Wednesday, July 31.

Winners will have their artwork featured in the September magazine and receive prizes.

All ages/experience are welcome!

There is still time to apply for a chance to be featured in FAC’s upcoming juried group exhibition at 1 N Market St. 🏛️ Home is a concept rich with meaning, encompassing identity, location, time, and quotidian nuances. We invite artists within an 80-mile radius of Frederick, MD, to submit work in any medium that explores these themes. Share your unique interpretation of what “home” means to you. Selected artworks will be showcased at the FAC Hurwitz Gallery in late summer - early autumn 2024. 🖼️

This exhibition will be juried by Liana Owad, an artist working with traditional and contemporary mediums to create sculptures and works on paper. Her work explores the domestic space and addresses the ideas of comfort and confinement in the home. She focuses on certain objects from the home or habits of routine daily life in her sculptures, prints, and drawings. She finds the physical manipulation of materials and learning new fabrication methods the driving force of her work. Owad received her MFA in 2014 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and her BFA in 2010 from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. Owad is a strong advocate for the maker movement and has helped launch two maker spaces, Nebraska Innovation Studio and the Michael Stanley Makerspace at the Chesapeake Arts Center. She has also been a studio technician and an instructor in sculpture, drawing, and on the proper tool and equipment used in higher education institutes and non-profit art centers. Owad is currently the Studio Arts Manager at Hood College and Adjunct Professor.
