Last Friday, Art League members and special guests gathered at the home of Mary Lou Whateley for our annual holiday luncheon. We raised $1500 in scholarship funds for students who participated in the Scholastics Art & Writing Awards through Fort Wayne Museum of Art! Mary Lou’s home was decorated beautifully, the meal was delicious, and check out those Fort Wayne Art League cookies!

We did it!

FWMoA has again achieved accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums, the highest national recognition afforded the nation’s museums. The Fort Wayne Museum of Art was initially accredited in 1996, reaccredited in 2008, and reaccredited again in late 2022. Of the nation’s estimated 33,000 museums, only 1,080 are currently accredited.

To earn accreditation a museum first must conduct a year of self-study, and then undergo a site visit by a team of peer reviewers. AAM’s Accreditation Commission, an independent and autonomous body of museum professionals, considers the self-study and visiting committee report to determine whether a museum should receive accreditation.

“Accredited museums are a community of institutions that have chosen to hold themselves publicly accountable to excellence,” said Laura L. Lott, Alliance President and CEO. “Accreditation is clearly a significant achievement, of which both the institutions and the communities they serve can be extremely proud.”

Thank you to our donors, volunteers, and countless visitors who have helped us achieve this great honor!
