The Queens County Farm Museum Visit us on the farm & at www.queensfarm.org to learn more and to join our monthly e-newsletter! The Queens County Farm Museum is a 47-acre working farm dating back to 1697.

The site includes a landmark farmhouse, glass greenhouse, and restored barns which provide us with a glimpse into our agrarian past. Its rich glacial soil, which attracted European settlers in the 17th century, has been continuously cultivated using sustainable practices, to this day providing people with the freshest food. We invite you to enjoy this New York City treasure, where historic structures, productive fields, livestock and busy beehives bring agricultural history to life!

Healthy soil ➑️ healthy plants ➑️ healthy people. We don’t add any pesticides to our fields, but we add a whole lot of compost. Compost is created by naturally breaking down organic material – we add finished compost to our soil to improve its structure, promote water retention and airflow, and provide essential nutrients for growing more healthy, delicious food all year round. Composting your food scraps also keeps them out of the landfill, where they would rot and produce huge amounts of methane β€” a greenhouse gas at least 28 times as potent as carbon dioxide.

YOU can get started with composting and help the Earth 🌎 by dropping off your food scraps in our tumbler bins on the farm, open daily from 10am-4pm. Stop in our Farm Store and our friendly staff will show you where to go! https://www.queensfarm.org/composting/

Our new flock of Red Star pullet hens (aka teenagers) are a liiiittle bit timid when it comes to the great outdoors! After giving them some time to acclimate to their new surroundings, today we introduced them to their chicken yard...and these are the results. One foot in, one foot out – not exactly jumping at the chance to fly the coop! How long do you think it will take them to get their confidence up? #barncam #cultureforall #nycfarm #testingthewaters

Ribbons of yellow are brightening up our flower borders as daffodils bloom on the farm. 🌼 Not only are these spring flowers pretty to look at, they are part of the #DaffodilProject, a citywide living memorial to honor 9/11 victims. This year, they also honor the memory of those lost during the Covid pandemic. We are grateful to New Yorkers for Parks, who founded this project in 2001 and has since distributed 7.5 million free daffodil bulbs across NYC's five boroughs. We invite you to take a stroll through our grounds and enjoy this beautiful tribute. #nystrong #newyorkersforparks #barncam
